This reminds me so much of issues with Harry Potter. I don’t mean to make fun of oppinions, but a video game isn’t gonna dampen someones religous value or whatever when it has NOTHINg to do with real life.

Exactly. I have a lot of respect for that guy for standing by his convictions, which is more than most people of any age do, much less the age that generally populates GameFAQs. I hope this thread doesn’t end up filled with angsty teenagers (or 11 year olds for that matter) making fun of him.
And there’s a big difference between thinking Harry Potter (something with no religious undertones) is “bad” and something like a Megaten game, all of which have STRONG religious and moral undertones. Some fundamentalists get angry about anything that has ANY sort of magic in it (almost all RPGs, anime, etc). This guy obviously is not one of these people, so he shouldn’t be treated as such.
Although from a Christian standpoint, anything can be considered anti-Christian when the person is obsessing over it to the point where it is the focus of their life, rather than God, which should be the focus of any Christian’s life. But I digress…
I have respect for this guy, also. He’s definitely better than 99 percent of the GameFAQS crowd. And if the game goes against his religion, and he doesn’t want to play it, more power to him. That’s freedom of expression, Holmes. I may not be a Christian, but I have a respect for any Christian who can actually give a solid argument. It isn’t like the guy said “OMGWTFBBQ, This game suxxOrz 4 going against mai beliefs uv teh christian religion…LOLZORS”. If he said that, then I would say he’s a fat idiot.
Psh, that’s not saying much. If you can form a proper sentence, you’re better then 99% of the people at the GameFAQs forums.
My point is this : I respect the guy for explaining his beliefs and why he does not think the game is for him without forcing his beliefs on others.
However, it’s 99% sure that his explanation will spawn the rest of the people who WILL try to force them. My point was that yes, people talk about the game in a mature manner, but a lot of them can’t (yes, this is GameFAQs, I know, but I can see Nocturne being one of the #1 games to burn for fundamentalists).
Plus, it’s an SMT3:Nocturne thread.

It makes me sad to see that people automatically write off all GameFAQs users as idiots who aren’t worth talking to, because I know a lot of people from various boards there who are kind, outgoing and knowledgeable about all kinds of things. In fact, I can honestly say that most of the users there are good people.
Why not? It’s fun! It gives us a sense of intellectual superiority, and they’re always fun to mock.

I obviously don’t, since I spend more time at GameFAQs than here (Say what you will about GameFAQs, but they actually talk about GAMES there, which is more I can say about this place). Hell, I even ran into Dalton on the Simpsons board once. And I’ve encountered Cid on the Bahamut Lagoon board when his shrine first came out. If I wrote off all GameFAQs users as idiots, I’d be writing myself off, as well as Dalton, and he’s not an idiot, he’s a sexy bitch. Cid too, but I’m not sure how sexy he is, as I haven’t seen any pictures of him. But he’s damn cool, and definitely not an idiot.
But the fact remains that a good majority of GameFAQs users are annoying little fucks. When I see shit like:

I get really annoyed for some reason. But the lure of people on the internet talking about VIDEO GAMES draws me there more than this place does. Plus I can hear people talk about cartoons, sports and other shit there. But I mostly lurk and watch people make idiots of themselves.
I’m sometimes on those boards as well, mostly boards of games I want to check out, usually, discussion is not that fierce because I’m not interested in extremely popular games.
I read the same post yesterday on gamefaqs. None of the stores around here have it in yet, but I might get lucky enough to pick it up this weekend in one of hick country’s bigger cities. Anyway, I’m not gonna say how much I respect the guy for posting the way he did since the topic on gamefaqs does as does this one.

You know, I’ve always wanted that game. It just came out on like, Monday. I heard it’s really good.
I’m Catholic, but don’t believe in god, so I guess it won’t bother me.
Edit: Oh, and just for the record, I hang around GameFAQs a lot. I think the occassional “PWND” or, “<insert phrase>'D!” is fine. Hell, I even did that kind of shit a while back just to laugh. But I hang around LUE a lot, so it means nothing in there.
I personally try to avoid the message boards at Gamefaqs for the more well-known games, unless I actually want to know something that is.
After reading the article, I didn’t find it as fanatical a condemnation as others I’ve seen.
I’ve played some Megaten games (Persona) and I found them very interesting. And I AM a Christian. If the games openly preached satanism, I’d oppose them, but they don’t. It’s all fantasy.
And I find Gamefaqs a useful site, especially when I need info on a game. (of course, I have never been to the GF Boards, so I can’t judge them.)

In other words, you’re not Catholic, but your family presumably is and goes to a Catholic Church (possibly dragging you along in the process). Catholicism isn’t a race, it’s a religion (In contrast, a Jewish person may not believe in the Jewish faith, but may still be a member of the Jewish race… there is no Catholic race, so if you don’t belive, you’re not one). If you don’t believe any of it (and you clearly don’t, since you are apparently atheist), then you’re not a Catholic, so you shouldn’t label yourself as one.
