WB and the director of Blade are supposed to be doing a live aciton version of Akira. Katsuhiro Otomo must be turning in his grave, if he’s dead. I’m not sure…
NO. BAD IDEA. Akira is a classic, and should be left as it is, without hollywood trying to make it ‘better’ ala Ringu and The Ring.
Live action anything anime is a Bad Thing, capital B capital T. The point of anime is that extreme special effects aren’t needed for crazy stunts, and that anything is possible. There are some things that NO amound of computer animation will make work… like…
:hyperven:
THAT. LOOK AT THE EYES.
:moogle:
A moogle will never be rendered to my satisfaction.
::doh::
Hair can just not go like that.
Evangelion might work. It has girls in spandex, and it’s not people doing crezzyarse things, it’s giant robots. Hell, I’d go to see a live action Evangelion.
…Mmm… flesh and blood Asuka…
:noway:
You shut up, Crono. Don’t judge.
Flesh and blood Asuka? BOYS, SHOW THEM WHAT YOU THINK OF FLESH AND BLOOD ASUKA!
:ah-ha!:
Edgar and Ness like it. I’d ask Flea, but s/he’d just come onto me.
OK. Now I must find an Evangelion site and find out what everyone is talking about…
[Edit] oh…
I know her! Has anyone else seen the Evangelion edit of Monty Python and The Holy Grail?
Someone basically took the audio from the Black Knight fight (“I’ve had worse!”) and dubbed it over the battle scene between Asuka and some big robot that looks like it has ribbons for arms. It rocks. Look for it on KaZaA.
I think I’m going to gather opinions through that magical medium called Poll… I’m for the Evangelion live action, myself, although it’d be hard to make the plot work.
So instead of seeing animated suckage, we’ll see live-action suckage.
And nothing can beat the fiasco that was the Street Fighter Live Action Movie. I mean, Raul Julia as an evil dictator? Hell, that film killed him! (It’s partially true, the SF live action movie was his last film before dying).
Evangelion MIGHT be successful, if only for the fact that, how hard can it be to make a big film about destruction and robots work? And yes, I know there’s more to NGE than that, but you know Hollywood…
