fuck yeah.
The lack of Brannagh hurts it.
I didn’t like the way Brannagh did Hamlet. I did like him in the HBO nazi movie whose name I can’t remember.
his Hamlet was so fucking cool. I mean, sure there are some lighter parts, but it’s like a 4 hour production. There hasn’t been a single better replication of any Shakespeare scene in movie-form than the Hall of Mirrors seen for the To Be monologue and Hamlet’s confrontation with Ophelia.
i agree. i love the brannagh Hamlet, though i have not seen the olivier one. though sometimes the movie does feel a bit… over-directed.
Yeah, I just think they couldn’t have chosen a better role for Gilderoy Lockhart than Brannagh.
Brannagh is the Shakespeare actor.
Are you serious? I could not stand his version of Hamlet: it was far too long and tedious for me. True, there were a few good scenes, but plowing through the rest to them was just painful. I also did not like the performance of many other actors in the film, espescially Dépardieu. I like some of Brannagh’s earlier films, especially Henry V and Much Ado About Nothing, though. He is a good actor of Shakespeare films, but I should not call him the best, for that title belongs, in my book at least, to Sir Lawrence Olivier.
This version of The Merchant of Venice does look lovely, though.
I kind of agree. I’m not much for Shakespeare movies, but Brannagh’s Hamlet was good, but it was long and tedius. I dunno, I kinda liked Mel Gibson, so that probably lessens my opinion.
I’m sure Brannagh’s charisma works better in plays. As for being the best ever, no, he’s not. I would probably say he’s the best Shakespearian actor in modern movies though.
