The Horror...the horror...

…movies suggestions!

I am in a strange mood lately, a mood that wants to see some poor babysitter get chased by a large man in a William Shalter mask, or a man with bad skin chase some girl who doesn’t get enough sleep. And while the slasher types are easy to find, I want to know about the real gems, the diamond in the rough. What are some classic horror movies I should pick up next week.

I currently have the following horror movies : Frankenstein legacy collection, Manhunter, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Se7en, Nightmare on Elm Street, Freddy Vs Jason, Gremlins, Gremlins 2, Young Frankenstein, Alien, Jaws, Bubba Ho-Tel, Signs, Stephen King’s It (miniseries), Nightmare Before Christmas and Underworld. Note that I do list thrillers and horror movies with comedy here.

Now tell me suggestions, and I will post what I end up buying in the end of this thread. Now excuse me, “I will be right back”.

[edit] By the way, on the movies with series (Halloween, Nightmare, Friday, Exorcist, Jaws, etc) if they are good or not. thkb

Can’t go wrong with Gremlins 2 Or if you’re into Sci-Fi, Aliens can’t do you no harm.

Well one movie I saw recently what a Japanese horror movie by the same director who did Ringu (the movie the ring was plagiarized from). The movie is called Ju-on: The Grudge and it’s probably one of the scariest horror movies I’ve seen in years. The amazing par is that there’s virtually no blood in the entire movie, when someone is murdered the bodies simply vanish and you never see the actual killing, only the events leading up to it then the horrible scream. The movie also isn’t in chronological order so while you might see a character die at the beginning of the movie, they’re fine in the very next scene; this makes for a very surreal and horrifying experience.

You might have trouble finding it, but if you do it’s worth it. Oh and coincidently, Hollywood is making a rip off of it called The Grudge (how original), however I’d suggest seeing the original if you can’t, somehow I don’t think Sarah Michelle Geler (Buffy) can pull off the same look of dread the original actors pulled off.

Anyway, here’s the trailer for Ju-on

The newer ‘House On Haunted Hill’ was pretty good, I thought. The newer ‘The Twilight Zone’ movie is sorta creepy.

According to my the professor of my summer Bio class, you’ll get more of the jokes in Young Frankenstein if you’ve seen the the old Frankenstein movie and Bride of Frankenstein. You are aware that Young Frankenstein is a parody and not a horror movie, right?

I thought Event Horizon was pretty freaky. And a Chinese (I think) movie called The Eye. It’s about a woman who gets a cornea transplant and then starts seeing things through the eyes of the previous owner. She decides to track her down to seewhat happened to her.

If you want a good horror-comedy, I’ve always had a soft spot for “Killer Klowns from Outer Space”.

The title should tell you all you need to know.

I never cared for horror movies.

“Never understimate the power of a Dark Clown.”
Darph

Yeah, Killer clowns from outer space is so horrible at being a horror movie its a comedy. Well I’ve never seen the original Frankenstein movies myself, but Young Frankenstein is still funny.

I don’t care for horror movies either, they almost always are ridiculous. One of these days it would be nice to see the characters having a little common sense before they die. It’s nice to see stupid people dying, but it just gets so old.

Hey, if you’re going to die, would you rather scream and die with nothing to make it worthwhile or die after totally doing that slutty chick that’s scared half to death?

Plus, if they had common sense, the horror movie killers may not last as long as they do, unless they’re superaliens.

You probably didn’t notice on my list of horror movies that I have Frankenstein legacy collection, which came out a few months ago. It has the orignal Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, Ghost of Frankenstein, and Castle Frankenstein. And yes, I am aware that Young Frankenstein is not really horror, but I put it there since I put horror related comedies, and that does fit that bill.

Zero, I’m talking about when the characters go check out all the bathroom stalls and ask if anyones around. Also not turning on the lights in a dark room if they can. Not yelling for help when someone could help you if you yelled/screamed for it 5 seconds before. The checking of dark, deep places that you shouldn’t. Not staying in a safe well lit room for the night. Oh i forgot my pj’s let me go out in the thunderstorm to the cabin on the other side of the lake to get them.

Hmm.

I don’t know if you have The Infernal Machine, but that’s a nasty one. Same with The Refridgerator (if it still exists). You can sense the crappiness.

Ju-on was fucking scary.

Critters!!! The entire series!!! … almost makes me want to watch it, but, heh… I think the first few might have… uh… some scary ish moments, but I think the later just became non-jumpy scary, I think Been a while since I’ve watched them, or as many as I did…

yeah man “its” an awesome movie, another good Stephen king movie is “Red rose” its like long though 3 hours i think, newer one too

lol a trt parody of horror movies would be the shit

Spice World. Yes, the Spice Girls movie. There is nothing more horrible.

Heh :stuck_out_tongue:

I forgot about Ghost Ship, that has one of the best beginnings of a movie I have ever seen. =D

Try some Stephen King movies: Carrie, Apt pupil, Cat’s Eye, Christine, Pet Cementary, Cujo, etcera.
