If James Shaheen had been left to run RPGClassics, I’ll bet it would still be producing new content constantly, generating new forums membership, branching into a slew of other subsidiary sites such as SRPGClassics, TradRPGClassics, StarcraftClassics etc. and would be turning a handsome profit both for the owner himself and whatever other distributed ownership structure he would have had to set up to help run a growing, profitable internet organization in 2011. Sinistral and Merlin would both be shareholders that could use the profits they made to pay for their respective expensive educations and I would have been banned years ago like I probably deserve to be, and I would have used all that extra time and energy to create productive projects that would be benefiting the world in numerous ways.
Basically, the great takeover of RPGClassics was the worst thing that could have possibly happened to this site and has directly led to it being a stagnant wasteland of old information and losers who make threads like these in the dead forums. I hope you’re all happy for what you’ve done. You are all literally worse than Stalin and Hitler combined.
I am now going to set an example for everyone by killing myself and I hope you all follow me by doing the same!
Seeing poeple who, in their youth, had high expectations for their lives and gathered around using the good videogames of the previous decade as a bond… Becoming so bitter and hopeless these days… It’s pretty sad.
You know, I don’t care whatever happens to RPGC. I always remember it as a place where I met people with who really loved videogames like I do. I also remember when we used to play Gunbound, Jedi Academy and other games together. Also, the shrines were the best walkthroughs I had when I used to play FF and other SNES RPG’s.
And Zep, if you think the place is dead and have such a great idea, why don’t you do just that and become a shareholder of a profitable videogaming site yourself?
Hey Pat. Can I call you Pat? I think the part that made it convincing is that the *Classics.com idea actually sounds pretty good, and I’m surprised nobody ran with it already.
It’s funny, people take not only Zeppelin’s posts too seriously, but also this forum. They’re both fun diversions.
People have gloomily recalled the “old RPGC” since the days of James Shaheen, since before the year 2000. Few of the people who now complain about the “decline of RPGC” were even here.
In reality, the forum hasn’t changed much. Some visitors just come to expect more out of a video game website than they have any right to expect. They stop having fun, grow cynical, and leave. Or they stir up trouble till they get banned.
Sure, quoting Kefka and bragging about beating Emerald Weapon was fun, and now we don’t see that as often. There’s more about politics and science, less about Squaresoft and Shigeru Miyamoto. Thirteen years later, our grammar and senses of humor have improved. But the overall demeanor here hasn’t changed much.
Wait what? James Shaheen went to prison? I must have been on a multi-week long fueled by two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls when that one happened. What’s the story behind that? Did he finally get caught trying to screw 12 year old girls? Cause he was a raging pedophile in case you guys weren’t aware. But hey, psychopaths often make the best capitalists.
Also, I’m pretty sure we had tossed around the idea of making different classics websites before, but like every project coughwikicough around here it got lost in the dustbin of faded ideas and dreams.
