Greater American bands? A lot of people would say the Doors, also maybe the Byrds or Chicago. But I’d favor the Beach Boys too.

Unfortunatly, I think the Doors were subjected to Morrisons whims too often to be that good. Their first couple albums were good but then everything kind of went to shit, just like Morrison.

I dunno, man. I thought The Doors got better as Jim Morrison got crazier. They are acid rock after all.
I haven’t heard much by The Beach Boys. I think that song where the islands being listed is by them though, that’s not too bad. Pretty nice mellow music.

Their album Pet Sounds can be considered one of the greatest American albums, but most of their other music was too… surfish for me to consider really great (although I like it and it’s fun to listen to).

But Beach Boys ARE great. Don’t get me wrong, but they are NOT the best.
