I don’t know what the FMSS.exe is but winsock2 is not a virus. It stands for windows socket and was probably installed on your computer when it was programed. Have you tried to run Ad-Aware SE? Check and see if this file exists on your hard drive:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\MSGINAV.EXE
If there is delete it that is a virus and it causes the task manager not to show up.
Winsock alone is ok. It is exactly what Hawk described.
But if (correct me if i am wrong), the file is WinSock2.FMSS.exe, then that could be a virus. Winsock has no FMSS in it’s filename, and that looks a hell of alot like a virus name to me.
looks like your right Dev check this out it may be bad grammer but thats because it was translated from german. I hope Sorcerer can figure this out.
in 7 steps
Task managers make again visible:
1 - Advanced Process manipulation (so similarly as Windows task managers Windows NT4/2000/XP functions) of http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=apm downloaden and install.
2 Advanced Process manipulation (APM) start.
3 with the right mouse button on “Fmss.exe” kleicken and then on EXIT PROCESS!
(the problem is temporarly solved! task manager can be now started!)
4 X:\WINDOWS\system32\ open (X = Windows drive assembly)
5 - Menu: Extras > > file option open
6 under “opinion”, hiding files and file, ALL FILES AND FILE ANNOUNCEMENTS!!! activate.
7 - Now fmss.exe find and delete
That looks about right, hawk:
They want you to download APM, which is a taskmanager clone, like i suggested.
Install it, and open it.
In the list of running processes, right click on FMSS and say “Exit Process”
Go into C:\WINDOWS\System32, and find and delete FMSS.exe
Make sure you are showing all files when you enter that folder.
