Tanning

One of my many projects this summer is to get a tan. However, I’ve never actually tried this before deliberately, so I’m not sure what’s the best way to go about it.

Currently, what I’ve been doing is: lying in the sun between 7 and 8 am twice a week (flipping over every 15 mins). I work full-time practically, so I don’t really have an oppurtunity to get outside during the day when the sun is directly overhead. However, I don’t want to burn, so I guess it’s just as well that I do it in the morning. The place I soak up sun is a nice little “balcony” area in one of the buildings on campus, which has high brick walls surrounding it – the reflected sunlight should be beneficial to the tanning process, I’m guessing.

I have no idea if twice a week is enough… I just do it that often because that’s how often I’m on campus. I could do it daily, but that’s kind of a pain. But I guess I might have to if twice a week won’t cut it. I’m not going for a dark tan or anything… just dark enough so that my chest/back is the same color as my arms and legs.

Does anyone have some experience in this area? Maybe I should be tanning outside during high noon, but only for short periods of time? Or maybe long periods of time with sunscreen on? But does sunscreen actually stop you from getting a tan? Advice would be much appreciated. :hmm:

I don’t much like tanning. So I couldn’t be of any help, sorry.

Step 1: Go out on beach for 2 hours
Step 2: remember to put on sun screen after 1.5 hours
Step 3: Get home and realize you got a bitchin sunburn that will turn into a tan.

Make sure your skin tans easily. I could spend a few hours in the sun and come back with a radiant tan.

My brothers, who have red hair, just burn in the sun.

Go swimming, a lot.

My problem is that, as a full-time worker, my time is very limited. I need fast results, and I need them pronto!

Also, whenever I burn, it never turns into a tan afterward. If anything, I think my skin gets whiter than before. :stuck_out_tongue:

15 minute visits, my mom used to go

I can’t help. All my tans happen after sunburns…Hmm…Get some tanning lotion maybe?

Ugh no, don’t use those, that’s ridiculously unhealthy.

He didn’t say ‘I don’t wanna use tanning beds,’ did he? :stuck_out_tongue:

I never TRY to tan, but I always seem to.

And I hardly EVER burn.

you want a tan?

I hate the sun. Passionately. I will do everything I can to avoid both it and tans.

I like pale guys… Personally I don’t worry about a tan. More power too ya though, just don’t over sun-bathe. Skin-Cancer can be a nasty thing.

I take it you already tan just fine, since you’re trying to match skin tones. Depending on how tan you’re legs and arms already are, get some tanning oil and then go tan for your one hour. Those things usually offer pretty good results. Whatever you do, don’t get one of those crazy rub on tans - they leave your hands looking all orange. It’s bad.

Yes it can make you look like an Oompa Loompa…

If you’re not used to it, I suggest using some tanning lotion and NOT staying under the sun for long periods of time (unless you’re swimming most of the time). There’s no other way around it if you get sunburned too easily. What I usually do (of course, I live really near from the beach, making it easier for me :P) is the following:
1- Lay in the sun for around 20-30 minutes (could be more or less…depends on how much time you have) on each side.
2- Jump on the water quickly (don’t waste your time swimming), then immediately return and repeat step 1. Then step 2.

I love the fact that there are so many people out there that want to tan. It gets their genes out of the current genepool out faster.
