Kicks ass. I’ve been playing the rom (released earlier today) for about an hour, and it’s great. There is a lot more story than in the original game, and the graphics look pretty neat. Also, there is a lot of room for customisation of your characters. The basic archetypes still apply (male main character is a warrior, girl a mage, etc), but that only affects your starting stats. When you level up, you get to choose a “class” for you to level up in (warrior, monk, magician, sage, thief), which basically is a group of stats that gets raised. I’m not sure if it affects anything else, but even if it doesn’t, it means that you can finally customise your party in any way you like(SoM just had archetypes, SD3 allowed you to raise stats, but limited you to certain weapons and abilities per character.)
Magic is a bit weird. First you need to get a spirit (as usual), but then you get to use it. However, using it is a bit different than usual. You don’t just select a spell in a menu, but you summon the spirit by holding down the R button. Depending on how long you hold it down, it either performs an attack or a support spell. This is pretty fun, and makes it a bit harder to just pummel the enemy with spells, like what I ended up doing in SD3.
So uh, yeah, I suck at writing previews like this. Basically, just go find the rom if you want, then buy the game as soon as it hits the shelves. It’s worth every cent.
I hope it’s better than Secret of Mana. Then again, ANYTHING is better than Secret of Mana! SoM sucks! It’s the worst RPG ever created! BURN IT! SEND IT TO HELL!!!

Yes. Sweet jesus, if i had a penny for evertime my “teamates” got me killed in that game. Well. Id have a hell of alot of pennies.
Sword of Mana looks nifty, but for me, it’s gonna have to wait. Getting FFX-2 next week is gonna wipe out my funding for awhile…not to mention most of my free time.

Sorry, I couldn’t really hear it because of that GODAWFUL techno they had playing at school, LOUD. But it’s pretty neat. Oh, and those metal things are weak to different kinds of weapons (slash - sword, jab - bow (should have gotten it in the cave somewhere) and, uh, crush? - staff.) Just experiment with them.
