so much for chivalry in the insect world…

here we see in the raspberries on the side of the house,
a katydid date gone sour, as a praying mantis had intecepted the woman,
severed her head, and is proceeding to suck the juices from her neck.
all the while her male parter stands on a leaf about 10 inches away,
not doing a damn thing…

TWO HOURS LATER

manty has finished with the katydid, he WAS holding the remaining centimeter of the katydid’s ass in his hands and munching on it when i went back out there, but he dropped it when i pulled a branch away to film him…

that other stupid fucking katydid is still standing less than a foot away…

Heh, the katydid stays there because it’s camoflauged. If it moved, the mantis would probably eat it, too.

And that’s cool, you got to grab a dragonfly… i’ve always tried to catch those, but they’re just so damn fast and good at flying. Nice photos.
