This has always been issue for me, whenever I play a stragety rpg, I hate it but I expect it-The main character always has the exact same appearance no matter what class. Are developers too lazy to make personalized costumes? It irrates me cause my character may look a fighter then i change to mage but besides stats there no motive to change since the last job looks more like the actual character,ya know? It would be nice if something more than just a line of text changed… Look at Final Fantasy 5 just about the only good thing about this game was the awesome personalized costumes for each respective job, even the smallest details made each character look unique with each job. So I ask how about giving main special storyline character their own unique costume for each job, I know it would a lot of work it but it would be a nice change of pace and would be really cool.
So please vote and give your opinion I don’t care if you disagree just state a reason why. What matters is that your answer is honest:cool:
That aside, the reason that story relevant characters do not change their appearances is so the player can tell that they are story relevant characters and not just generic fodder. Besides story relevant characters tend to have their own classes anyway so it’s largely a moot point.
Also FF V is not an SRPG and thus lacked generic playable characters to begin with.
I thought I’d place it in gaming since this is a gaming poll. Anyway my point about FFV was that I could tell instantly between any of my characters and a generic fighter etc., it doesn’t matter if it was a strategy rpg or not, it shows as proof that characters change switch jobs and keep their identity. You said most character have their owns jobs anyway, thats are hardily true, they have their own job but their not made unique with job because anyone can be made into that job, making even storyline characters seem like useless fodder.
In my opinion SRPGs can do 3 thing to keep this from getting too annoying.
Give the characters unique commands like converting enemy units, or stat bonus for units around him, maybe a special attack that sacrifices hp, but keep job changing+add sprites.
2.Assign special jobs- Classes that feel similar but function quite differently, I suggest giving the main characters choices from about 3 special jobs(different for each character but similar)
3.Fixed Special Jobs-This would keep characters from being generic but would limit players choices
Now maybe in FFT there was more unique characters but today’s SRPGs need to focus on abilities/jobs for them not just an appearance that sticks out.:no2: Bottom line is your army’s their for a reason and well it would be nice something special for the characters.
I get what you’re talking about here. Like in FFTA, Marche would have the same damn sprite for every frigging class. It’s really annoying after a while. At least in FFTA2, some of the unique characters had their own classes (Hurdy and Adelle), but it’s a pain to see those characters have the exact same sprites for the entire game. At least Ramza’s sprite changed every chapter or so in FFT.
It really is getting retarded and its not just the FFTA series, it happened in Tactics Ogre & Tactic Ogre Knight of Lodis also. My Personal opinion is your characters should start with unique, unchangeable jobs and at some point class-up into maybe one out of 3 improved versions job of that. Vandal Hearts had that system but it applied to all units(not just heroes) and job changing took place 2X with 2 choices each time.
