Seems SquarEnix has decided to rerelease a few PSX titles. Namely Final Fantasy Anthology/Chronicles, Vagrant Story, and Xenogears. All for the lower ‘Greatest Hits’ prices, which is good news for me, since I’ve been interested in buying FF:C but not for $60 Canadian >_>
Has anyone played Vagrant Story? I don’t know much about it, is it any good?
You will now have your head beaten over with a giant stick for questioning the greatness of VS, from both Sin and SK.
I’m not going to hurt you, but I’m going to HIGHLY suggest you try it out. Vagrant Story is unique, but in a highly playable and enjoyable kind of way. Think of a Final Fantasy Tactics-esque storyline, written by Shakespeare and played out like Parasite Eve and Metal Gear Solid. 8)
Now if only Square Enix would release Valkyrie Profile, I’d have a little more faith in their latest decisions.

That’s awsome, since I lended FF:A and FF:C to a friend and well, I have yet to have them returned…
I have actually wanted to play Vagrant story for quite a while. It seems promising.

Dude I have been trying to find Valkyrie Profile for years, that game rocked. But this is cool, they are probaly just doing this because instead of a game sequel to FF7 they do this and we will still love them… well it worked so whatever.
First of all, it’s said SQUEENIX, not Square-nix, not SQua-nix, not anything else! SQUEENIX.
Second, Vagrant story sucked, I hated how it looked. And I never thought anything cool of it.
Third, YES!!! XENOGEARS!!! MWAHAHAHAHA!!! WHAT SYSTEM IS IT FOR?! I MUST HAVE XG!!! passes out
Hmm, I think I’ll be trying out Vagrant Story … or at least finding a script for it online …

Vagrant Story is one of my favorite games, it has such lovely twists and characters… eh… lovely might not be the word to describe the characters of course.
And what little I’ve played of DW I recall with great fondness. With these rereleases, maybe I’ll get a chance to play Xenogears too…

4’s problem isn’t the translation- it’s that Heartbeat’s death meant the battle system couldn’t be used. They weren’t going to be able to get around the copyright Heartbeat had on it, so 4 became dead in the water. I’m most likely going to buy a copy when I’m in Japan next year.
Trouble with the re-releases are that much dialogue has been changed or removed. Cid in FF4 no longer uses the “I’ve got something for Golbez and its more than just my middle finger!” or whatever it was, line.

Another one picking on the DW series… my, my. What have you got against it, anyway? I mean, the games are solid, old-school RPGs that don’t overload us with this angsty-teen-boy-with-a-big-sword crap that Square keeps coming up with. And the graphics, while not the greatest ones out there, are the classic sprites we all know and love. And the storyline, while not as complex as the FF games and seems a little dull at times, has a lot to offer; for example, the following scenes;
Zebot and Eri’s friendship, and the deathbed scene where Eri learned to feel love. (DW7)
The King of Moonbrooke’s death in DW2.
Watching the great Ortega die in DW3.
The absolutely horrid state of some of the worlds in Dragon Warrior VII. I mean, I cried when I saw the immigrant town in it’s original form. And remember Coastal near the end of the game?
The gameplay is always good, classic, turn based monster bashing. So what exactly do you have against it?
I’ve wanted to try Vagrant Story, but I didn’t want to hunt around for it and pay a bundle. This is a good thing!
If FFA will be cheaper, I’ll get it too. I’ve only seen it costing around $50 US, and there’s no way I’d pay that much for two games, one of which is FFV. (just my opinion, that’s all, let’s move on)
I’d be even more excited if there was some DW4 heading this way, but I’ll have to keep crying myself to sleep at night over it. Kagon, could you elaborate on the battle system you referred to or give me some link that explains it?
