Song of the Day

Song #16: “Suburban Home” - Descendents

Video - I want to be stereotyped, I want to be classified

I want to be stereotyped, I want to be classified.

I want to be stereotyped
I want to be classified
I want to be a clone
I want a suburban home, suburban home, suburban home

I want to be a masochist, yah
I want to be a statistic
I want a be a clone
I want a suburban home, suburban home, suburban home

I don’t want no hippie pad
I want a house just like mom and dad

I want to be stereotyped,
I want to be classified
I want to be masochistic,
I want to be a statistic
I want to be a clone
I want a suburban home, suburban home, suburban home, suburban home, suburban home, suburban home

The Descendents are awesome. You want to be them. YOU ALL DO! ALL OF YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! AHAHAHA! I… I just got off work and didn’t get a lot of sleep. WHEE!

Anyway, this song is one of my favorite songs by them ever. I seem to be saying that a lot, but it’s true! Even ask me.

Nice guitars.

Song #17: “Strangelove” - Depeche Mode

Pain- will you return it? I say it again: pain.

Lyrics: Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That’s how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me
Will you take the pain
I will give to you
Again and again
And will you return it

There’ll be times
When my crimes
Will seem almost unforgivable
I give in to sin
Because you have to make this life liveable
But when you think I’ve had enough
From your sea of love
I’ll take more than another riverfull
Yes, and I’ll make it all worthwhile
I’ll make your heart smile

Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That’s how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me
Will you take the pain
I will give to you
Again and again
And will you return it

There’ll be days
When I’ll stray
I may appear to be
Constantly out of reach
I give in to sin
Because I like to practice what I preach
I’m not trying to say
I’ll have it all my way
I’m always willing to learn
When you’ve got something to teach
Oh and I’ll make it all worthwhile
I’ll make your heart smile

Pain will you return it
I’ll say it again - pain
Pain will you return it
I’ll say it again - pain
Pain will you return it
I’ll say it again - pain
Pain will you return it
I won’t say it again

Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That’s how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me

I give in
Again and again
I give in
Will you give it to me
I give in
I’ll say it again
I give in

I give in
Again and again
I give in
That’s how my love goes
I give in
I’ll say it again
I give in

Everyone loves Depeche Mode! And if they don’t they’re a fucking Communist. You don’t want to be a Communist, do you? Then listen! It has one of my favorite intros, and certainly has some of the best lyrics. Mmm. Delicious. <_<;

So…it’s a song about S&M?
I’ve never really paid attention to the lyrics of this one. I do like the song though.

The resemblance to Queensryche is uncanny. If you change the instrumentation, that is.

Dunno, I think the singer often carries their tracks.

Did somebody say Queensrÿche? I think they did.

Song #18: “Spreading the Disease” - Queensrÿche

Spreading the disease everybody needs but no one wants to see

Lyrics:

Queensrÿche:Spreading The Disease

She always brings me what I need
Without I beg and sweat and bleed
When we’re alone at night
Waiting for the call
She feeds my skin

Sixteen and on the run from home
Found a job in Times Square
Working Live S&M shows
Twenty-five bucks [a fuck]
And John’s a happy man
She wipes the filth away
And it’s back on the streets again

Spreading the disease
Everybody needs
But no one wants to see

Father William saved her from the streets
She drank the lifeblood from the saviour’s feet
She’s Sister Mary now, eyes as cold as ice
He takes her once a week
On the alter like a sacrifice

Spreading the disease
Everybody needs
But no one wants to see

Religion and sex are powerplays
Manipulate the people for the money they pay
Selling skin, selling God
The numbers look the same on their credit cards
Politicians say no to drugs
While we pay for wars in South America

[Saudi Arabia, on tour]

Fighting fire with empty words
While the banks get fat
And the poor stay poor
And the rich get rich
And the cops get paid
To look away
As the one percent rules America

Spreading the disease
Everybody needs
But no one wants to see
The way society
Keeps spreading the disease

Operation: Mindcrime is my favorite concept album ever, so when Rigmarole mentioned Queensrÿche I absolutely had to bite. Spreading the Disease isn’t my favorite song on the album, but it’s one of the best songs on the album (my favorite song is “Suite Sister Mary” which clocks in over 10 minutes- wasn’t sure that you’d want to hear that <_<).

Mindcrime.

Queensryche used to be among my favorite bands. I think my favorite albums of theirs are Rage for Order and Promised Land. I once played part of Sister Mary on the guitar; it’s a good song.

I can still remember the first time I listened to Mindcrime. And I just spent a pretty big chunk of time listening to Queensryche.

Song #19: “Bizarre Love Triangle” - New Order

Live video

Every time I think of you
I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue
It’s no problem of mine but it’s a problem I find
Living a life that I can’t leave behind
There’s no sense in telling me
The wisdom of a fool won’t set you free
But that’s the way that it goes
And it’s what nobody knows
While every day my confusion grows

Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I’m waiting for that final moment
You’ll say the words that I can’t say

I feel fine and I feel good
I feeling like I never should
Whenever I get this way, I just don’t know what to say
Why can’t we be ourselves like we were yesterday?
I’m not sure what this could mean
I don’t think you’re what you seem
I do admit to myself
That if I had someone else
Then I’ll never see just what we’re meant to be

Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I’m waiting for that final moment
You’ll say the words that I can’t say

This song is very personal to me. I’ve heard several different interpretations of this song, but the one I think of is pretty personal to this song. Being personal, I’m not sharing it. I’ll tell you all the ones I’ve heard, though: 1. It’s about a gay man who’s in love with a heterosexual man in a relationship (or a gay man in denial in a relationship with a woman). 2. It’s about a dude with AIDS (I really can’t see that one). 3. It’s about a woman cheating on her husband from the “other man’s” perspective. 4. It’s about a man who used to be with a woman that just can’t get over her even though she’s with someone else. 5. My personal interpretation that I’m not sharing.

I like this song. I never really listened to the lyrics, so I can’t really comment on any of the interpretations.

Then why mention it?

It’s past midnight, so I’m just going to go ahead and do “today’s” song right now.

Song #20: “She Has a Girlfriend Now”

It takes a while to start the actual video

Lyrics:

She has a girlfriend now
She has a girlfriend now
She has a girlfriend now, she said
“Guys don’t do no more for me”

“You never loved me, like i wanted you to”
(you never loved me, nooooo)
“I said I loved you baby, what do you want me to do?”
(what do you want me to do?)

She said she found someone who’s gonna hold her hand
She said she found someone who’s gonna understand
She don’t need nobody to be her man
She don’t need nobody to be her man

She has a girlfriend now
She has a girlfriend now
She has a girlfriend now, she said
“Guys don’t do no more for me”

She said she found someone who’s gonna hold her hand
She said she found someone who’s gonna understand
She don’t need nobody to be her man
She dont need nobody to be her man

She has a girlfriend now
She has a girlfriend now
She has a girlfriend now, she said
“Guys don’t do no more for me”

Well I never thought it would end like this
Just because I’ve got no tits
I’ll shave my legs
I’ll wear a bra
I’d even cut my penis off for you
(oh, that’s so sweet!)

She has a girlfriend now
(She has a girlfriend now)
She has a girlfriend now
(She has a girlfriend now)
She has a girlfriend now
(She has a girlfriend now)
She has a girlfriend now
Yeah

Kairi’s avatar inspired me to post this song. You’re welcome.

It was an avatar that sparked a war!
Not really.

Cute song. I swear I’ve heard it before this. Maybe on the radio once.

The New Order song is about a guy/dudette becoming a CEO. Or selling out. Or living a life style the narrator doesn’t agree with. And there’s sexual tension or friend tension and vagueness allows many interpretations, anyway.

I prefer small fish.

So, track 10 on my favorites list just started playing moments ago and I thought to myself, “My this song sounds familiar.” It’s never had a name so I didn’t know what it was. It seems I really liked Bizarre love triangle, but had no idea that’s what it was. Song labeled now, yay.

Hey, an interim song! Don’t blame GAP for it.Blame the withdrawal syndrome.

Unnumbered Song: Save me

I hang my head and I advertise a soul for sale or rent

It started off so well
They said we made a perfect pair
I clothed myself in your glory and your love
How I loved you,
How I cried…
The years of care and loyalty
Were nothing but a sham it seems
The years belie we lived a lie
I love you 'til I die
Save, save, save me
I can’t face this life alone
Save, save, save you…
I’m naked and I’m far from home

The slate will soon be clean
I’ll erase the memories
To start again with somebody new
Was it all wasted,
All that love?
I hang my head and I advertise
A soul for sale or rent
I have no heart I’m cold inside
I have no real intent
Save, save, save me
I can’t face this life alone
Save, save, ooooohhhhh…
I’m naked and I’m far from home

Each night I cry I still believe the lie
I’ll love you, 'till I die

Save, save, ohhhhhh, save me
Don’t let me face my life alone
Save, save, ooh…
I’m naked and I’m far from home

It’s Queen (with Freddie sporting fabulous clothes). The lyrics won’t be getting any awards for originality, but Mercury is one of my favorite singers and the instrumental parts fit well, neither cluttering the song nor making it bland. That’s what pop ought to be like.

Oh, did I mention it’s awesome?

Well, I was just about to post a song (since I just came to New York), but we can consider Rig to have done today’s song, especially since it’s Queen. QUEEEEEEEEN!

You were about to do New Yorkx2 and were feeling guilty?

Ew. No. I don’t like that song at all, Rig! I’d never do that one. o.o;

Song #22: “To Live is to Die” - Metallica

The only Metallica instrumental I like

Lyrics (technically):
When a man lies, he murders some part of the world.
These are the pale deaths which men miscall their lives.
All this I cannot bear to witness any longer.
Cannot the Kingdom of Salvation take me home?

I only have one thing to say about this: \m/

I do :stuck_out_tongue:

TLITD is good, but it has the usual And Justice… problem. You went to high school, you know the story.

That’s okay, Rig. It’s just not a favorite of mine. Like a penguin.

Song #23: “Beyond the Black Hole” - Gamma Ray

Power metal that isn’t fantasy? Sign me up!

I have come from so far away
From the sunlight of my home
And I have seen it’s the only way
Now my sun is dead and gone

I raise my head in silent anger
Seems there is no place for me
The only way out is to go
Where no one’s gone before

Fly - Beyond the gates of space and time
Another universe is mine
And I can’t wait until tomorrow
Ride - There’s a call from deep within
No I won’t return again
'Cause I will dive into the black hole

Don’t wait for me, 'cause I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh, oh, oh …

Thunder and lightning and fire
Are guiding the trip of my life
Insatiable burning desire
As into the unknown I dive

I raise my head in silent anger
Seems there is no place for me
The only way out is to go
Where no one’s gone before

Fly - Beyond the gates of space and time
Another universe is mine
And I can’t wait until tomorrow
Ride - There is a call from deep within
I know I won’t return again
'Cause I will dive into the black hole

Don’t wait for me, 'cause I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh, oh, oh, don’t wait

There was a trigger, for my decision
It’s right behind my eyes
Into the darkness of my vision
I let my spirit rise

I wanna see the black hole, into the dark
I wanna dive into the black hole, down into the dark
Into the black hole, into the dark
Into the spiral, Into the dark, the dark, the dark

If there’s a possible chance for something that can be
Called future behind the spiral
The only way to find out, is to leave the final frontier
To eternity and fly

I will fly - Beyond the gates of space and time
I leave the universe behind
And I can’t wait until tomorrow

Fly - Beyond the gates of space and time
I know the universe is mine
'Cause I will dive into the black hole

Ride - And there’s a call from deep within
I know I won’t return again
'Cause I will dive into the black hole

Don’t wait for me, 'cause I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh, oh, oh, don’t wait

This is a song about someone that is either profoundly stupid, or desperate. You decide!
