It was an avatar that sparked a war!
Not really.
Cute song. I swear I’ve heard it before this. Maybe on the radio once.

The New Order song is about a guy/dudette becoming a CEO. Or selling out. Or living a life style the narrator doesn’t agree with. And there’s sexual tension or friend tension and vagueness allows many interpretations, anyway.
I prefer small fish.
So, track 10 on my favorites list just started playing moments ago and I thought to myself, “My this song sounds familiar.” It’s never had a name so I didn’t know what it was. It seems I really liked Bizarre love triangle, but had no idea that’s what it was. Song labeled now, yay.
Hey, an interim song! Don’t blame GAP for it.Blame the withdrawal syndrome.
Unnumbered Song: Save me
I hang my head and I advertise a soul for sale or rent
It started off so well
They said we made a perfect pair
I clothed myself in your glory and your love
How I loved you,
How I cried…
The years of care and loyalty
Were nothing but a sham it seems
The years belie we lived a lie
I love you 'til I die
Save, save, save me
I can’t face this life alone
Save, save, save you…
I’m naked and I’m far from home
The slate will soon be clean
I’ll erase the memories
To start again with somebody new
Was it all wasted,
All that love?
I hang my head and I advertise
A soul for sale or rent
I have no heart I’m cold inside
I have no real intent
Save, save, save me
I can’t face this life alone
Save, save, ooooohhhhh…
I’m naked and I’m far from home
Each night I cry I still believe the lie
I’ll love you, 'till I die
Save, save, ohhhhhh, save me
Don’t let me face my life alone
Save, save, ooh…
I’m naked and I’m far from home
It’s Queen (with Freddie sporting fabulous clothes). The lyrics won’t be getting any awards for originality, but Mercury is one of my favorite singers and the instrumental parts fit well, neither cluttering the song nor making it bland. That’s what pop ought to be like.
Oh, did I mention it’s awesome?
Well, I was just about to post a song (since I just came to New York), but we can consider Rig to have done today’s song, especially since it’s Queen. QUEEEEEEEEN!
You were about to do New Yorkx2 and were feeling guilty?
Ew. No. I don’t like that song at all, Rig! I’d never do that one. o.o;
Song #22: “To Live is to Die” - Metallica
The only Metallica instrumental I like
Lyrics (technically):
When a man lies, he murders some part of the world.
These are the pale deaths which men miscall their lives.
All this I cannot bear to witness any longer.
Cannot the Kingdom of Salvation take me home?
I only have one thing to say about this: \m/
I do
TLITD is good, but it has the usual And Justice… problem. You went to high school, you know the story.
That’s okay, Rig. It’s just not a favorite of mine. Like a penguin.
Song #23: “Beyond the Black Hole” - Gamma Ray
Power metal that isn’t fantasy? Sign me up!
I have come from so far away
From the sunlight of my home
And I have seen it’s the only way
Now my sun is dead and gone
I raise my head in silent anger
Seems there is no place for me
The only way out is to go
Where no one’s gone before
Fly - Beyond the gates of space and time
Another universe is mine
And I can’t wait until tomorrow
Ride - There’s a call from deep within
No I won’t return again
'Cause I will dive into the black hole
Don’t wait for me, 'cause I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh, oh, oh …
Thunder and lightning and fire
Are guiding the trip of my life
Insatiable burning desire
As into the unknown I dive
I raise my head in silent anger
Seems there is no place for me
The only way out is to go
Where no one’s gone before
Fly - Beyond the gates of space and time
Another universe is mine
And I can’t wait until tomorrow
Ride - There is a call from deep within
I know I won’t return again
'Cause I will dive into the black hole
Don’t wait for me, 'cause I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh, oh, oh, don’t wait
There was a trigger, for my decision
It’s right behind my eyes
Into the darkness of my vision
I let my spirit rise
I wanna see the black hole, into the dark
I wanna dive into the black hole, down into the dark
Into the black hole, into the dark
Into the spiral, Into the dark, the dark, the dark
If there’s a possible chance for something that can be
Called future behind the spiral
The only way to find out, is to leave the final frontier
To eternity and fly
I will fly - Beyond the gates of space and time
I leave the universe behind
And I can’t wait until tomorrow
Fly - Beyond the gates of space and time
I know the universe is mine
'Cause I will dive into the black hole
Ride - And there’s a call from deep within
I know I won’t return again
'Cause I will dive into the black hole
Don’t wait for me, 'cause I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh don’t wait for me, no I won’t come back
Oh, oh, oh, don’t wait
This is a song about someone that is either profoundly stupid, or desperate. You decide!
Eh, Gamma Ray play too much by the numbers for my taste.
Have you listened to Ayreon’s The Universal Migrator pt2? It’s SF and somewhere on the prog-power axis.
I have not listened to it yet, though I promise I will when I stop running around like a chicken with its head cut off getting ready for a move I didn’t know was coming.
And they may play by the numbers, but I love them anyway. I have absolutely no idea why, but I love them! <3
Song #24: “Thieves” - Ministry
Lyrics:
Thieves, thieves and liars, murderers
Hypocrites and bastards
in laughter (get up!)
(get up! get on your feet!)
Hey thanks for nothing!
Morals in the dust
Two-faced bastards and sycophants
No trust
(We are fighting for the liberation of minds, not for the liberation of this pig, and racist society)
Thieves! liar!
Inside, outside, which side, you dont know
My side, your side, their side, we dont know
Which side are they? which side are they?
Which side of their mouth do you suppose that it came?
Which side are they? which side are they?
Which side of the grass is greener?
Inside, outside, which side, you dont know
My side, your side, their side, we dont know
Youre like a great big fucking gun,
Just waiting to get squeezed!
(We’re gonna rip this motherfucker off, we’re gonna tear this motherfucker down)
(get up!)
(Get up, get on your feet!)
Breathe, forfeit erection!
Toxical injection
Geriatric fuck-fest
We still believe in lies
(I hope they realize that this is their last goddamned chance)
(Kill him!)
Thieves! liar!
Inside, outside, which side, you dont know
My side, your side, their side, we dont know
Who started it? who started it?
Which side are they? which side are they?
Which side of their mouth do you suppose that it came?
Which side are they? which side are they?
Which side of the grass is greener?
Inside, outside, which side, you dont know
My side, your side, their side, no one knows
Youre like a great big hit of acid,
Waiting to be taken!
(Power to the people)
(Police Officer!)
(you will not kill!)
(I want peace)
(do you want peace?)
(I can’t hear you!)
(I still can’t hear you!)
Everyone loves Ministry, right? RIGHT!? If you don’t, I’ll rip your fucking face off. I swear it! RARARRARRRRRRRRRARARRRRRRRARR… meow.
Ah, Ministry. Great band. Are you moving to NY then?
Yep. In two weeks I’m moving to NY.
Song #25: “Yakedy Sax” written by Boots Randolph and James Q. “Spider” Rich
I’ve had to play this song before, though I didn’t know it was part of the Benny Hill show at the time. It was pretty hot and sticky. Supposedly adding this to anything makes for instant comedy, but I fail to see it. I think it’s a good song in its own right.
That song has been irredeemably ruined for me by every tv show and it’s mom, Pavlov’s dog style.
To honor your upcoming move,
The roads are the dustiest, the winds are the gustiest
The gates are the rustiest, the pies are the crustiest
The songs the lustiest, the friends the trustiest
Way back home
(Back home)
The trees are the sappiest, the days are the nappiest
The dogs are the yappiest, the kids are the scrappiest
The jokes the snappiest, the folks the happiest
Way back home
Don’t know why I left the homestead
I really must confess
I’m a weary exile
Singing my song of loneliness
The grass is the springiest, the bees are the stingiest
The birds are the wingiest, the bells are the ringiest
(The hearts) the hearts the singiest
(The arms) the arms the clingiest
Way back home
(What about the sun?) The sun’s the blaziest
(And the fields?) The fields the daisiest
(And the cows?) The cows the graziest
(And the help?) The help’s the laziest
The boys (are the wittiest)
The girls (are the prettiest)
Way back home
(The pigs are the snootiest, the owls are the hootiest)
The plants the fruitiest, the stars the shootiest
(The grins the funniest), the smiles the sunniest
Way back home
Don’t know why I left the homestead
I really must confess
I’m a weary exile
Singing my song of loneliness
The food is the spreadiest, the wine is the headiest
The pals are the readiest, the gals are the steadiest
The love the liveliest, the life the loveliest
Way back, way back, way back, home
(No place like home)
Sweet home
The lyrics are silly, but it’s a bittersweet ditty that’s kind of an earworm. Besides, what kind of man would leave the hootiest owls to go to the big city? DOES NOT COMPUTE.
And now for something completely different. That’s an old rembetiko song (there’s a 1935 record here).
Five guys in Piraeus
were passing outside the smoking house
One of the gang said
let’s go smoke a nargile (hookah)
They went in to smoke
told the owner
Get us one good nargile
with “Persian tobacco”
You are asking for twopence
we are paying three
If our head fills up
we will come again
They smoked but it was no good
they called the owner
-I didn’t get high at all
it was all tobacco
Man, you thought you are dealing
with amateurs
we are neither teenagers
nor addicts
Let’s go to the hill
I have a hookah hidden
let’s go smoke it there guys
let’s skip the smoking house
Man, you thought you are dealing
with amateurs
we are neither teenagers
nor addicts
If they close the smoking houses
in Piraeus
I’ll be taking
my rag to the cave
Back in '35 smoking of both kinds was pretty widespread. Piraeus was a place where refugees from Turkey settled in, ergo the proliferation of smoking houses there.
This is, like, the consumerist of the interwar period. And a good song to boot.
Music that sounds like it should live in an old school musical tend to irk me until I learn all of the lyrics and sing along. Then I get to be as obnoxious as the song.
Queens of the Stone Age - The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret
I’ve got a secret, I cannot say
Blame all the movement to give it away
You’ve got somethin, I understand
Holding it tightly, caught on command
Leap of faith, do you doubt?
Cut you in, I just cut you out
[chorus:]
Whatever you do
Don’t tell anyone
Whatever you do
Don’t tell anyone
Look for reflections, in your face
Canine devotion, time can’t erase
Out on the corner, locked in your room
I never believe them and I never assume
Still can’t believe there is a lie
Promise is promise, an eye for an eye
We’ve got something to reveal
No one can know how we feel
I think you already know
How far I’d go not to say
You know the art isn’t gone
And I’m taking my song to the grave
Of all the people “recycling” old music styles, they do it best. I’d probably choose a song off Lullabies… but I gotta run.
I like it better when Gen was doing this.
I haven’t contributed anything to this thread, I think its about time I do. (even if everybody has already seen it)

This song is playing right now as the background to some trashy Oprah-wannabe show. Huh.
Savatage - Believe (Acoustic version)
So after all these one night stands
You’ve ended up with heart in hand
A child alone
On your own
Retreating
Regretful for the things you’re not
And all dreams you haven’t got
Without a home
A heart of stone
Lies bleeding
And for all the roads you followed
And for all you did not find
And for all the things you had to leave behind
I am the way
I am the light
I am the dark inside the night
I hear your hopes
I feel your dreams
And in the dark
I hear your screams
Don’t turn away
Just take my hand
And when you make your final stand
I’ll be right there
I’ll never leave
All I ask of you
Believe
Your childhood eyes were so intense
While bartering your innocence
For bits of string
Grown-up wings
You needed
But when you had to add them up
You found that they were not enough
To get you in
Pay for sins repeated
And for all the years you borrowed
And for all the tears you cried
And for all the fears you had to keep inside
I am the way etc.
I never wanted to know
Never wanted to see
I wasted my time
Till time wasted me
Never wanted to go
Always wanted to stay
'Cause the person I am
Are the parts that I play
So I plot and I plan
Hope and I scheme
To the lure of a night
Filled with unfinished dreams
And I’m holding on tight
To a world gone astray
As they charge me for years
I can’t pay
I am the way etc.
Streets is my favorite album of the bunch and it’s so weird that their label has lost the original outtakes that had twice the songs in them.
