Wil, we aren’t that interesting. Guys like the Nostalgia Critic, the Nerd and Spoony (The other one) get pages because they’ve created huge fictionalized personas that are effectively characters. We, on the other hand, are people. People nobody gives a shit about, because… well, despite what the new media’s bazillion tools to broadcast your every thought and feeling may lead you to believe, most people simply aren’t that interesting.
FIRST of all, since when are you a member of RPGC? Did you make a shrine? Forum members don’t count as RPGC members last I checked. Otherwise I would be one since I’ve been here for almost a decade. Talk about time wasted! haha!
Second, no. This page is pretty much dead except for the forums, which are mostly used by people who have been here since when the site was actively used. If there is a section on tv craps about dead websites you could probably put RPGC’s acronym somewhere.
I don’t think the site is actually that dead in all seriousness, as there are some cool things on it, but this site does not warrant it’s own entry on some other crap catalogue.
Oh, and I thought of another good reason for not doing this - it could cause trouble to brew up because people might not at all agree what some people would write about themselves in a TVtrope entry and edit it, which would lead to arguments. For example, maybe not everyone agrees that you’re a “Cool Old Man”, Wil, and somebody changed it to Screw Politeness, I’m a Senior. Note that I don’t think so, it’s just an example - though I agree with GAP that you’re putting words in people’s mouths here, and your ignoring of 984 and the fact that you keep saying so is rather childish, that’s still not enough to make that trope fit you. Like SE said, we aren’t characters.
What I’m trying to say is, what would you think if and when that happened?
On the same tangent, personally I’m not at all comfortable with people placing taglines on my personality. I’ve had online friendships crash because I realized that people had really slanted ideas about what kind of person I was, which I didn’t at all agree with and I couldn’t make them understand that they had things wrong (when I tried, they said I just wasn’t admitting the truth to myself!) - they didn’t know me, just their own idea of me that wasn’t real. You can’t make real people fit tropes, that’s not how it works.
Even if you say you’d only mention the site itself, sooner or later people would start to write character caricatures of people here whether the featured people want it or not.
TVTropes is definitely not the place for pimping our now-dead site. The point about Troper Works is that they are, well, works. We aren’t one.
I for one ceased caring about RPGC getting “back on its feet”, “revived”, or any other metaphor involving zombies and phoenix downs, a while ago. RPGC had a good run, but I’m content to let it rest.
Seriously though I don’t understand why people have to be dicks about this. Reminds me of an argument about mountain giants vs. hippo archers. I’m glad I stopped sucking at everything around then and went with dual-aura ghouls for the remainder of RoC. It was total bullshit how they turned ghouls into nothing but a wood chopping machine. I just hope they don’t change zerglings in sc2 cause that movespeed is seeeeexy (2 damage to destructable rocks whaaaaat nah its okay im just kidding). I remember I used to get all pissy about something when someone chopman
