This way fathers(or is some cases mothers) wouldn’t be separated from their children for months on end and having a good chance of dying in Iraq and Afghanistan.
A lot of people who are kids of people in the military are really screwed up and detached because of these things.
Yea, we could replace them with robots, but not if they have families.
Well, that would be nice, but I don’t think it’s realistic. MOST people have some sort of family, you know. We’d lose most of our military force if that happened.
Show me a family that is free from some sort of dysfunction, military background or no.
I went around with a petition for a law that would prevent anyone who had parents from joining the military. I really don’t know if half of the people signing got the joke or not.
So, does that mean while you’re in the military you’d have to not get married or have kids either? I don’t really think that’d work out.
In this day and age if people want to join the military regardless of whether or not they have kids, so be it. I grew up in that background. My father met my mother while he was stationed in Korea in 1976. I personally wouldn’t do it, because though I support the people out there, I don’t support the cause of why the people are out there. Kids are irrelevant in my decision, since I don’t have any.
I’m willing to bet there is a large number of soldiers who joined the military(in NA) to help pay for their families they created via poor child-planning and general lack of life goals. This proposition would cripple a North American military.
I don’t WANT to derail this thread, but I must semi-derail it and say that in an ideal world, militaries wouldn’t exist.
So, in my opinion, they shouldn’t be allowed to any less than anyone else, but at the same time I don’t support it, for anyone.
And also, the people you’re (collective “you’re”) closest to aren’t limited to family. Even if you don’t have a wife or kids or living parents, there are probably still people who’d be sad to see you get yourself blow’d up.
That is only a small percentage. Most join before they have kids or family and do it maybe for their own future. Most people in the military have kids after they join. Also, there are many who join to make a career out of it. It would be stupid and impossible to keep people with kids from joining, largely for this reason. Hell, it would weaken the military so much and/or create so many lawsuits (kicking people out for having kids or getting married). Besides, family is what makes a lot of stuff in the military tolerable (deployments are A LOT harder when you have nothing to come home to). The military is doing a lot to help families and kids get through the deployments. Also, I don’t think military kids get screwed up because of deployments, hell I don’t even see the basis for what you are saying since most kids haven’t grown up yet of those in the military to where deployments have really had an affect…unless you are looking at Vietnam era kids or Korea or WWII. I’m not saying deployments don’t hurt kids and families in other ways, but I don’t think it automatically leads to a messed up kid. Hell, deployments are getting shorter and are still better than past wars where when you went…you went for the duration.
All this talk of families and soldiers, reminds me of the movie Taps.
The military shouldn’t even exist anymore. We should be finding ways to be at peace with other countries. And we should put alot more effort into making our country not a pathetic disgusting shit hole anymore.
There are too many assholes in the world.
The US has been forcing peace on Iraq for years already.
Horrible idea.
Murderer.
Very true. Hell, the commanders are always talking about how we have to work ourselves out of a job (by finishing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan). Unfortunately it is an necessary evil.
If the world are one. There’s no such things called country or nation, the reason of war might gone.
ENGLISH MOTHER FLIPPER DO YOU SPEAK IT?!
Also, I say we take our troops out of iraq/iran as soon as possible. and stop giving those middle easterners attention, thats all they want.
I don’t know where you got this, most everybody I know that joined the military just did it because they a) liked to shoot at stuff and b)were just plain proud americans. So, there you have it. If anything it’s not full of poor decision makers, it’s full of really smart gun-totin’ wackos.
