Schwa-chan for president!

As the japanese would say.

For some strange and scary reason, I see this as a possibility.

After Bush’s reelection, I’m willing to believe anything.

It’s more depressing that the whole drive is really just for one man. I doubt the founders really care about someone who moved to this country at the age of 6 or anything. But, I am just making assumptions here with no real hardfound data to back it up.

If the Republicans believe that Schwarzy is gonna be able to defeat the Democrats, they’re going to do their darndest to get rid of the “You have to be born in the US to be president” rule.

my gosh. i like arnold and all but if that ammendment passes i will have officially lost faith in the american way

Wasn’t that an amendment though? What do you have to do to destroy/amend an amendment?

It’s very difficult to get a constitutional amendment passed, so I wouldn’t hold your breath. :stuck_out_tongue:

To answer pierson:
You have to pass a new amendment that nullifies or changes the past ammendment.

Maybe I am missing something big here…but, I think that having a foreign president wouldn’t necesarily be bad, if they’ve lived in the country long enough. Seriously, like what if you were born in a foreign country, and then moved to the states when you were like, 1 year old? :stuck_out_tongue: You’d never be able to run for president cos of that shit? I’ve always thought that seemed kind of lame. But, on the other hand, I don’t want some fool who’s not even lived here that long to be our president either. I think there should be a pretty high requirement for years lived in the U.S, and with that, a foreign president wouldn’t be so bad.

However, I agree with Amerycinsycho; it’s pretty lame that the idea is suddenly getting attention cos of Arnold.

How’s Arnie doing in California anyways? I hear he’s not entirely wrecked the economy yet.

i try not to pay attention to politics and government and the what-not. they piss me off

There’s no amendment prohibiting foreign born citizens from serving as President. It was an original part of the Constitution, specifically in Article II, Section 1.

“No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”

Now, I don’t mind amending the Constitution so that foreign born citizens can serve as president. The versions I’ve read all require 20 years of citizenship (as well as the other Presidential requirements), which is pretty fair in my estimation. Now doing it just for Arnie is stupid (just as repealing the 22nd Amendment just for Clinton is stupid), but the idea in itself is rather fair.

Also, I would just like to point out that The Guardian is incorrect in its summary of how a proposed Amendment becomes a part of the Constitution.

Has anyone else here ever seen Demolition Man?

Yes. Prescient, no?

Of course, I just thought it would have been a bit too obvious to point out.

UACJKK" D I SAW A PUMPKIN ZE OZA DAY IT WAS A DEMOCRATIC PUMPKIN BECAUZ IT WAS ROUND LIKE KENNEDYAADAD{D DONKEY JOHN KERRY AJSA GIRLY MAN ECONOMICSSSSS

Girlie-man political pundits are no match for rippling biceps and my big mini gun!

You big furry xenophobe you.

i have no clue how that makes me a xenophobe. its a principle that an american president should be american.

Yes, but there can be Native Born and Foreign Born American citizens. I would never question someone’s American-ness if he left his country and had to go through the process of becoming a naturalized citizen. That shows some dedication, especially since the only benefit of becoming a citizen if you’re a legal alien is voting and serving in elected offices.

But someone that was born in America and is only a citizen because of luck? Why should that be considered a nobler status than the naturalized American? I’ve seen many Native Born citizens that don’t give a rat’s ass about America or its elections, but you want to hold them in a higher position than Ah-nold or Madeline Albright (I’m pretty sure she’s naturalizied)?
