Its like with Quebec and its doctor problem: the government is seeing its doctors flee in droves, its a fucking exodus, and they wonder why because they refuse to acknowledge what the source of the problem really is :P. There are problems with the system that need to be addressed or people suffer.

Canada loses 200 to 250 physicians to the U.S. each year, mainly specialists. Within 10 years, 10 per cent of a group of doctors completing post-graduate training will have emigrated.
Doctors in Canada worked an average of 53.8 hours per week in 2002. This includes those working part-time. It does not include time on-call.
Some European countries are legislating a maximum workload of 48 hours per week for physicians. If the same limit were implemented in Canada, there would be an instant shortage of 12,780 physicians.

In Quebec, the problem is is even worse - Quebec doctors move to, not just US, but right across Outaouai river into Ontario. Charest gouvernement might do better in trying to keep their MD’s than the separatists did. I mentioned it on another thread: the premiers just cut a deal for more funds from Ottawa going into healthcare.

In our society, religion and science occupy very different roles. Science is what keeps people alive when they’re sick, for example. Not religion. Religions in this world have been passing phenomena, because all a religion needs is to have people believe in it. Science is here to stay because of how the basis of science works and is applied . . . The concept of science and religion aren’t comparable for the purpose you described.

There’s a reason science hasn’t vanquished and disposed of religion: modern science deals entirely in representations (sensory observations). In other words, science can tell us everything we can know about what we see, but it can’t tell us anything about the <i>real</i> substance behind images, or the greater order of the cosmos, or even treat the universe as anything other than a giant reaction in progress. Insofar as the scientist can understand, consciousness and free will are illusions, and chaotic chance rules the cosmos.

Modern science itself announces that it can’t provide a full, universal understanding. The Uncertainty Principle demonstrates that the actual nature of a phenomenon is bound up entirely in the way we measure it: we can detect a particle’s speed, or its position, but never both, because the very act of measuring changes the phenomena. What we see changes depending on how we look at it. The fascinating conclusion is that representations are entirely bound up in the workings of the human mind. It suggests there’s more to reality than, quite literally, “meets the eye”; at very least, that the representational order of the universe is a manifestation of the human mind itself.
