Popup Killers

I seem to be having issues with popups, so I was wondering if you guys could link me to good, reliable popup killers.

I’ve been running Spybot AND Ad Aware (which, might I add, combined they kick ass. Spybot picks up on things Ad Aware does not, and vice-versa) almost daily in an effort to delete some of this shit. I dont even go to that many websites on a daily basis, but somehow I end up with over 150 a day.

Anyway, even though I get rid of all that shit, I still get popups. So…back to popup killers. I’ve looked around the net, but I dont really know whats good and what isn’t.

So gets ta gettin people.

The Opera browser has a popup killer in it, and is free.

Are you getting web page popups, or those damn Messenger popups that Win XP has built in?

There is still something weird about you getting pop-ups when you aren’t browsing any pages.

Yea. I’ll be playing a game and popups will come in and fuck me up. Or I’ll leave my computer on at night, wake up and have to alt+F4 out of 15 or so popups.

dude, i feel your pain…i got “my” PC hijacked a few months back, (some fool used netbios, what a loser) and made my PC the home base for his popup ad agency based in denmark. So when ever a person recived one of his popups it came from my PC so i saw them too, even when i wasnt browsing the web. I could tell you how to get rid of it, but it’s real long, and i dont feel like typing it all right now, and no ad aware wont find it becuase it isnt written as registry key.

And if you want to stop popups while you are browsing the net, you should get the new google toolbar. It has a built in popup blocker, and it works like a charm.

soo, just PM me or sumthin if you want to get rid of the non browsing popups.

Dude, the Google Toolbar sucks. The frikkin thing screws up some scripts. For instance, it’s impossible to install a vBulletin 3.0 with the Googlebar on.

The latest version of AOL has a built-in popup blocker. :hahaha;

Just one advantange among the many disadvantages.

Like frame said.
Just get opera (preferably the larger file). Open it, hit F12 and there you go.

There is Opera, there is Mozilla: Both two excellent browsers that are regularry updated and patched and carries an inbuilt popup killer, much unlike a certain other and for reasons unknown vastly more popular browser.

Or SlimBrowser if you’re too used to that familiar, and quite frankly, boring interface.

I’ve heard that both Opera and Mozilla screw around with some websites, so I’ve opted for Slimbrowser, which so far has done away with popups. I’ve been away for about 3 hours and my screen is popup free.

Gracias.

When I posted something about a popup killer last month everybody nearly kicked my ass since I was “enjoying all the fun of some sites without paying them back” or something like that related to income cutting. Bah.

I have a popup killer by the name of Popup Killer (no kidding). But it takes some time to close popups. I think the ideal popup should keep them from even opening. Well, I’ve never used other popup killers, so I have no idea of how they work.

That was something to get rid of a frikkin harmless banner ad. Popups aren’t okay to get rid of, because they can damage your computer (One more instance of IE, more ram needed, not enough? CRASH!)

Yea, I’ve actually got that one, and I dont really like it since it doesnt prevent them from popping up, it just closes them for me.

Kazaa Lite and Mozilla.

You could disable Javascript in IE’s options. That’ll take care of it for you.

Our computer up at work was doing that for a while. It turned out to be a virus causing it. We would get popups from literally every site we’d go to, and we’d get others when the browser was closed (often while we were trying to help customers). I’m not saying that your problem is a virus, it could quite possibly not be. However, if it is the same virus we were having problems with, you might check <A HREF=“http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.nettrojan.html”>here</A> for a little more info. You’d notice if it was the same thing, cause the file “unwise.exe” would always be running in the background.

Why doesn’t anyone suggest turning off Java? Netscape works nicely that way. I think the most recent version might even have extra anti-popup features on top of the java thing.

I use Kill Popup from download.com

It stops everything, and you just have to hit control when you want a new screen to open up.
