Note that this comes from some recent necros I’ve seen.
Now, I dunno if it’s possible with vB (or maybe there’s something for it), but after X days of no replies (say 15), the thread automatically gets locked, except for stickied threads. Yes, I know this can result in some old topics coming up again, but after 15 days, they’re generally dead and nobody posts in them. I’d give a link to a board I’ve seen do it, but it’s porn (some people can guess/know what it is), so if you’d like to see it, PM me or see if I’m on IRC.
You KNOW some people are going to ask for the link because of the subject matter and not the technical display… :thud: seriously, though, good idea- a slight adjustment to that (and an idea I’ve seen at every board I’ve visted except this one) is to have an “archive” forum- just bung all the old threads in there instead- admittedly, if people want to re-read threads they could always work for them, but restricting ALL posting in that one forum will stop necroposting for definite, and keep all topics in the main forums nice and relevant.
I agree with Bing, Some threads are never posted in again after so many days, but some are with an important comment. If there just going through old threads and commenting for no reason then the mods I’m sure consider them spamming. But normally Nercroposting doesn’t happen much, at least not lately.
Old threads with questions on a subject are sometimes brought back from “the dead” when someone who has the answer wades thru the old topics
Agree.
Not only if someone find some days (or weeks) an answer to a posted question, but also for noobs. If a newby wants to post to an older topic he would’ve to open a new thread for it instead of posting in the old one…
And anyway: Why is there a need of locking old threads???

BTW what is what link… jk
but i do like that idea of locking posts after like a week or so. but they should still be accesible incase some one wants to read it, just not be able to post on it.
