A good way to deal with wasps or bees is burning some querosene beneath their hive. They all fall dead. As for ants, I’ve been researching and developing specific formicides for some time now. Nothing seems to be better than alcohol and… er… I forgot the name of that thing that looks like sugar. DT said she tried it once and it didn’t work. I’ve found a species that’s resistant to it but I don’t know if it’s the same. Another good thing to try is baking a cake with poison. Depending on which kind of ant you wish to kill, fungicides in the cake will also do a great job (because they use all the food they get to grow a fungus, which is what they eat). For most other kinds of insects, deodorant sprays like Axe are a real killer.

Darwin Awards has a case in which a woman set fire to the grass of her house while burning ants like that. BTW, here in Brazil there is a kind of ant that pops up with a kinda cool sound when you throw it in a fire. Some kids like picking the small things and throwing them into the flames.
