Pain

I never really notice pain, I feel it, but it just doesn’t hurt. As a child if I was getting beaten up, I would just laugh, in fact I still laugh. The only pain I really feel and that hurts me is like winding pain or when I get kicked in the nuts.

A story.
This weekend I was eating some kinda 30-second micro-chilli on my lap and I spilled a bit of the hot chilli onto my chest, it was hot and I had my shirt off while playing FFO, anyway the chilli was burning my chest pretty bad but I ignored it for a while, but then I felt it burn hotter and just ate it. However, this chilli actually burned a hole through my skin and I didn’t notice, theres a great red hole there now and I needed some burn cream but…

Anyway, am I normal.

No. Most people notice stuff burning a hole through their chest, no matter how occupied they may be at the time.

FFO what’s that?

Final Fantasy Origins.

Um… @_@ Either you’re REALLY tough, a REAL liar. (No offense)

Have you ever passed a kidney stone? Oh yes, you’ll feel that.

Yeah, that can be kinda dangerous if you can never feel pain. Even though it would be hella-cool.

I r teh godmddr! I r0x0rz! gets hit by some guys pinky UGH! dies

In other words, you feel it and you know its there, but your capable of completely ignoring it? If so, I’m the same way.

Ignoring pain is quite the “talent”. Anyone can do it provided their mind is occupied, though some are more tougher than others. I can focus my mind elsewhere if I’m hurt usually, but getting burned, uh no I don’t think I could take my mind off that.

I can stand a certain amount of pain, but burning is a bit much.

Hmm… I’ve heard of an illness where you cannot feel pain at all. Don’t know enough about it to say if you’re one of those or not… have you been ill? With fever and so?

Ehehe… o.o;; And I’ve been whining about cutting a piece of my finger off. >_> Damn, not noticing pain could be really dangerous…

I can take a big beating before I give up. But pain, I can feel it but kind of hard to ignore it…

I dunno why you can ignore it… maybe you’re telorent to pain…

<img src=“http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/tenchimaru/td.gif”> Wouldn’t that effectively remove the ability to feel anything? Because if it does, something is terribly wrong with your nerves.

But it sounds like a case of angst to me. Or drugs. Or nightly beatings with a club by a drunken man named Bud.

Pain is not associated with the sense of feeling so that illness wouldn’t keep the person from having some tact.

However, not feeling pain is, like everybody said, dangerous. I just remembered one passage from GURPS Cyberpunk about a chip that connected to some PC’s brain would keep him/her from feeling any pain. It goes “(…)but you could cut a limb on something and you would feel just a soft touch in the area. You might only feel something is wrong after losing a lot of blood.”

There are documented cases of people being born without the necessary pain-feeling nerve connections, and most of them die very early in life from accidents or illnesses. They get sick and don’t tell anyone because they don’t realize it, or they don’t stop doing something that’s really hurting them because they can’t tell they’re being hurt, such as standing under a scalding shower. They don’t learn the right things to be afraid of, hence they’re careless and get hurt really bad.

There are people who are hypersensitive and people who are hyposensitive . It is a possibility that you have a condition where your body has an odd response to pain and you can probably find information on google for it. Pain is a very interesting and researched subject in psychology and biology.

And Curtis speaks truth, though it doesn’t mean you have that particular condition

nods That’s what I meant. Guess it came off wrong. Those people cannot get fever either, so that’s usually a good intication.

You really don’t know what pain is until a rod attatched to you spine unhooks and pokes almost out of your skin. Let’s just say I never hear myself screech before. I have a very high tolerence for pain to given my past medical history.
