Outrage in China over 'body-processing' factory

::dekar!::

That’s pretty disgusting. It strikes me more as something that attracts people for the same sick “let’s watch someone get hanged” thrill then for any instructional purposes. And how did this company even get ahold of the bodies? (Upon rereading it, it seems like they get them all over the world - so I guess most likely they pay the families, etc for them)

edit: if the people agreed to allow their bodies to be used like this, then yeah, it doesn’t matter as much. but if they’re just slipping the families 20 bucks to dig out the corpses, it’s not right. …and yeah, I thought of Soylent Green too. o_o;

:hyperven: WTF?!?!?

Soon they’ll be breeding us like cattle! You’ve got to warn everyone and tell them! Soylent green is made of people! You’ve got to tell them! Soylent green is people!

Bad taste (rimshot), I know, but I’m sorry. Body processing just reminds me of Soylent Green. I think I’ve seen some corpse work of art before. Yeah, it’s dead, but it was still pretty interesting. I mean, if the people died naturally, and the family chose to allow the company do this, I don’t see what the big deal is.

They have reason to be angered; I should not want my corpse to be used for artistic purposes without my leave.

Could von Hagens not use non-organic substances, rendered so that they look like human flesh and bone, for his art?

I think this is a hoax intended to take Hagens down. He only works on bodies of people who had previously agreed with him that when they died their corpses would be used in his exhibitions. Furthermore, people don’t like Hagens because they are shocked with everything that has to do with showing the human body in a non-conventional way. I see bad reactions towards his work as I see the disgust some people have for nudity.

I’m sorry, but that’s just wrong…:fungah:

I think it’s pretty damn cool. They say the human body is art in its own, so why not?

Meh, its art.

I agree with that, and if the person agrees to it beforehand what’s wrong about doing it? It’s just like donating your body to science; only it’s not science, it’s art.

I think people just want something to complain about heh.

I think its cool myself =)

Well, if they agreed to it prior to death, then I’ve no problems. If not, THEN someone’s gonna die :enguard:

And yes, I’m reminded of Soylent Green

Bah. The whole “Oh it’s art so it should be acceptable” is always a weak excuse. Just because it’s art doesn’t make it socially acceptable or beautiful :fungah:

If we didn’t do things because they’re not “socially acceptable” or “beautiful”, civilization would be very slow to advance.

I’m nto fond of it, but still, if it was agreed to beforehand.

If they consent to it, then I have absolutely no problem with it. Not only that, but the artwork looks pretty damned cool.

Yeah that was just my opinion though I guess. Still, the same thing happened when thousands of people laid out naked in the street for “Artistic purposes” :stuck_out_tongue: It’s not…appropriate for everyone.

Ewww.
It was bad enough with the one who used rat corpses.

Corpses should be left alone and not brought among people: Do you have any idea how much a rottening corpse stinks?

I doubt there’s much of a smell. If there was, there would also be diseases which means unsanitary conditions, etcetera. It wouldn’t be there.
Probably uses formaldahyde and other things to keep it from getting bad.
