So, for a graduation present, I’m gonna get a new laptop, huzzah! HOWEVER! The problem, as Neo (or whoever) says, is choice. So basically … what am I gonna get, huh? I’m hoping for something with 256 RAM, something not Windows ME, and the possibility of online playing (though not strictly necessary) … any pointers?

Dell currently has the upper hand in the laptop market, I don’t know whether their systems are exactly what you’re looking for, either price or spec-wise. But laptops are getting pretty heavy duty these days.

I have a dell inspiron. Only bad thing about it is the modular bay getting stuck. But i had that problem with my compaq too.

No, I am not Mini laptop or Large Laptop.
I’m buying a computer myself, but my mom tells me it would be better to get a desktop over a notebook (laptop). Mainly because the desktop is cheaper and all, but I’d love a laptop to be able to set up in the living room and work on shrines with. Should I pay the extra however much?
I would try and ignore what size the laptop was if the specs are good. I got an Ihspiron 2.6GHz, 512MB RAM, 15" screen and 40GB HD for about £1000.
And… er… little green guy, 512MB of RAM is still pretty good, if not top-spec anymore. I can play most new games on mine just fine.
If you don’t have a desktop, get one before the laptop. They can be a ton cheaper, more powerful and are much less accident prone (“Whoops, Ah dropped sumthin’!”). I have both a Desktop and a Laptop, and although the laptop has better specs, the desktop runs better. You can assemble one for a few hundred, then start saving for a laptop.
Also, laptops scald your crotch.
