North Korea: You're So Funny!

Sentancing Journalists to 12 years in a labor camp and all that jazz!

No hope of appeal, either, do to it being the country’s highest level court.

I thought that people that got arrested in foreign countries could be transferred to their ome country? I guess I’m very not as schooled in law.
That really, really sucks. Labor camp for twelve years? What did they do? I havent heard about this.

Were these journalists from FOX? If so, the sentence is far too light.

:kissy:

They were caught near the Chinese - North Korea border taking pictures.

You arent allowed to take pictures in Korea?

They are from Current, a cable TV station and website owned by Al Gore.

Euna Lee is Korean-American, Laura Ling is Chinese-American.

Their guide and cameraman say they were on the Chinese side of the border taking pictures of North Korea when NK soldiers crossed the river (it was frozen) and “detained” them.

North Korea is using them as leverage, for additional aid or maybe to gain some kind of recognition as a nuclear state. This is NOT the first time North Korea has kidnapped foreigners.

Haven’t you ever seen locked up abroad? that show explains why you should never ever do anything illegal in third world countries.

Being ostensibly communist, North Korea is a [STRIKE]second-world country[/STRIKE] second-tier character.

On the upside, when they get out the dictatorship will be over!

:kissy:

why can’t the country who the journalists or whatever belong to be all like “you be taken hostages from our country” or something like that? do they just not care?

Why can’t we just nuke those muslims back to the stone age? oh right they’re already in the stone age lol

Is that a movie?

lol’d

no, its a show on the National Geographic channel. I’ve seen it once or twice, but its not something I’d TEVO.

I heard one of those girls (or at least one of the other reporters) they captured used to be the hot asian girl on Channel 1 News.

Oh the things I swore I’d do to her in the 6th grade.

Consume a bowl of raw phalluses, Korea.

You’re thinking of Lisa Ling.

They’re our journalists. Kidnapping a foreigner, especially a pair of attractive American females, is like winning the lottery for North Korea. If my country doesn’t either ransom these women back or give some kind of political concession to the DRPK, they’ll take it out on them.

I bet my beard we’ll never see them alive again.

It’s a bad idea taking pics at sites of military interest. Of course, anyone who really cares can send a plane to photo the hell out of them or use Google Earth (:mwahaha:).

There’s been controversy about photography in the States too. US photographers’ rights

CNN seems to say they have a pretty good shot at getting released if Gore or Richardson head to N. Korea to negotiate.

But CNN says a lot of things, and I don’t know enough about the country to say whether or not this is BS, or an actual good sign.
