New Sega RPG?

Yeah…I was snooping around some websites today and found that Sega’s apparently making a RPG. Here’s the site if you wanna check it out.

There’s not much there right now, but it’s got some interesting music I can’t help but think I’ve heard somewhere before…make sure to click on the center flower when you can to hear it.

Sega slipped up…lol Looks like it’s called 7th Dragon.
Anyways, still don’t know much about it. Though I’m loving the old-school music.

The music’s good.

The end reminded me of Metroid (Fusion?).

Hot.

Sega and 8-bit music, I mean.

A bit of an update here.

Reading this my level of anticipation for this game has shot up dramatically.

Let’s hope the story isn’t just draconian genocide. Wasn’t it Ultima (VI?) that had you face gargoyles from the depths or Britannia, who were behaving like that because you’d snatched their Codex of Wisdom in the last game? So you had to talk to them, not kill all of them, and that was a game released years ago. Then again, I haven’t seen many games where you give $ to beggars to raise your humility score and become a hero. You can always save a puppy for compassion however

Fuck you 1up. Yuzo Koshiro DOES need an introduction, because I’ve never heard of him. So nyaaah.

Edit, damn, he’s got some huge titles under his belt.

Heh, I had to look up what he composed too. Turns out Koshiro has been involved with some damn good music (the most notable for me being the Streets of Rage games and ActRaiser). After reading the 1up article, hopefully this title should turn out pretty good.

As for the story, I remember one theory where it was the other way around playing as the dragons killing all the humans invading their lands. Personally, I’d find that more interesting.

The last two posters suck for not knowing who Yuzo Koshiro is. :no2:

The last two posters apparently aren’t huge enough nerds to follow every japanese game composer in the industry. :stuck_out_tongue:

Why do people even CARE about anything Sega makes at this point? Hasn’t the continuous river of shit they’ve made for years not convinced you of anything? Its like Ubisoft. Its like Paris Hilton for video gaming. They’re famous for something but they’re shallow, superficial and a waste to society.

Yeah, I don’t really care to follow every frigging thing that comes out of Japan. That’d lead to me being near-braindead. (ha) I just tend to follow up on whatever’s interesting.

But, I’m gonna be nice and post some new pics:

Am I the only person who hears a piece of music that he likes and finds out who the musician is and checks out their other work? :frowning:

I don’t find myself doing that with composers.

Wait! Valkyria Chronicles was just another turd in a river of shit? Also I’ve been caring since they’ve started to share the load with guys like Bioware and Platinum Games. If anything I think they’ve reached the point where they can finally leave rehab.

Anyway the site’s up now and from the shots I’ve seen it looks to be the EO version of DQ.

So is this Sega game on PS2… or the OOOOOOLD Sega system?

I agree with Sinistral to a very large extent. I think the only difference is that I’m hopelessly optimistic. 7th Dragon has the potential to be good - I mostly say this because the producer is Rieko Kodama, a big part of the genius behind the early Phantasy Star games and Skies of Arcadia. The only thing about 7th Dragon - you can be sure the combat will feel dated. I’d bet 50 bucks it’ll be a turn-based combat system, and VERY basic to boot.

The Sonic RPG will probably be alright, since Bioware - though I don’t like American style RPGs very much - is very competent at what they do.

Also, if World Destruction OR PSZero get released here and don’t suck, I will overlook their past few years of unadultered crap. I will say this, though: I’m not holding my breath.

I have a saying: throw enough shit against the wall and eventually something will stick.

Phantasy Star is not that great. Its like saying “Sakaguchi made Mistwalker! He’s the father of FF!”. Well, guess what, look at Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. The man is trapped in the 90s.

I enjoy Phantasy Star. I do feel I should point out at this time that Rieko Kodama (producer of this new Sega RPG) had no part in the Phantasy Star Online games. PSZero will be a PSO type game, and I think that if ‘they’ somehow learn their lesson after PSUniverse was so shitty, PSZero could be good. Not holding my breath :stuck_out_tongue:

As for the original Phantasy Star games, they were excellent for their time. Likewise, a lot of what Sakaguchi did was excellent - maybe even above and beyond - for its time.

Here’s the difference, though: While Rieko Kodama clearly enjoys that oldschool style, she’s not stuck trying to relive the glory days. Sakaguchi…yeah. He totally is. The funny thing is, the two Mistwalker games would be 1000 times better if the combat wasn’t so painfully slow. Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey would ramp up instantly in their enjoyability if they weren’t so slow, especially Lost Odyssey.
