Does anyone take those seriously anymore?, I mean the number of members on the boards has rose by over 20% since october, but I’ve only seen a very small fraction of them actually post, usually they make one thread and vanish forever, or they don’t post at all.
Thoughts please.
I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.
Is that unusual? I’ve only been in one or two Message Boards, so I cannot tell.
Besides, I see nothing wrong in just saying “hello”. If people don’t like it here, it’s perfectly OK for them to leave.
Perhaps they join expecting things to be different? You guys must admit, RPGC is TECHNICALLY about RPGs, but here in the Main Board, we rarely seem to talk about them. At least that is my impression.
One suggestion: Maybe there should be a single, stickied Joining Thread, like the one for Birthdays?

We’ve discussed that already and came to the conclusion newcomers never really look before they leap, so it’d be a waste of time. Besides, people like to introduce themselves, isn’t it selfish to remove others that pleasure when you did it yourself?

The thing is, the staff have discussed this issue in depth a lot, and we came to the conclusion that it’s best not to. End of story.
Well that’s ok and all, but I’d be for a purge of the 0-posters like every 5 months or so. The memberlist is like, huge and it’s kinda annoying to search for someone 
I made one such thread when I came here, but it’s been very long ago. My current thought is that people should be educated enough to stop making such things. “Hi I’m new” threads are simply places where one can get a post for free without being bitched at. I don’t loath or hate people who open such topics, though.
I think they should be locked on sight, mainly because 90% of the people who post in them just post the same worthless bullshit from any other newbie thread they’ve posted in, and change the name.

Anyway, I just made what I thought would be helpful suggestion, for organization purposes. I’m not against people making introductory threads at all; certainly, I’m NOT annoyed by them, unlike a lot of people here. Really, folks… just don’t read them.
Oh, and for the record: I NEVER had an introductory thread. I just hung around until people noticed me.

I say just let them go for it for fuck’s sake. I can’t believe the amount of elitist whining “oooh they’re not useful, ooooh no one even posts after the intro thread”. Shut up and grow a pair, dammit. If you don’t like intro threads don’t look at them, and if you really can’t help it and their presence annoys you, well turn your computer off and go chill out. I can’t understand the constant bitching about newbie threads. Yeah, some of us can’t stand them, but others enjoy welcoming people. It’s only one fucking thread, and only one fucking person so if they leave, who cares? Let them go, don’t waste even more threads about it prolonging the topic. True, 75% of newbies don’t stick around, but a few do, obviously, give people a chance. it’s not like new people are chained to RPGC- where most dislike the newbie attitude and want them gone, but yet they cry when the newbies don’t contribute anything and just leave. I had the chance, but I never did it. I don’t go near those things unless there’s an actual discussion that starts up, which rarely happens.
