Maiden is one of the best bands in the history of everything. They are responsible for the creation of life, the air we breathe, the ground upon which we walk, the food we eat and the water we drink. If it wasnt for them, we would be lost as a society.
Having said that… I fucking hate their repeating the track title over and over and over again and passing it off as a chorus.
I like what I’m hearing off the new album, but given the early reviews in magazines, along with the band’s own words, I’m sorely disappointed.
These songs are pretty good. All I can say is I hope that this album isn’t nearly as dissappointing as their last one. Oh, they should also get an actual artist for their cover.
And yeah, DiAnno was the best for a band called Iron Maiden, I’d say. Bruce Dickinson is still just awesome. That being said, Bailey just… sucked. Sucked, sucked, sucked, sucked, sucked. I’m glad Bruce came back.
Have you heard Bailey’s solo stuff? Whoo boy, it smokes Maiden’s current stuff about as much as Bruces Solo stuff does. Number of the Beast through Seventh Son smokes 'em all though. Oh, and seach for the art for the new album “A Matter Of Life and Death” They got a real artist this time, and he gives Derek Riggs an honest to god run for his money.
Maybe he just didn’t fit with Iron Maiden. I just thought that he sucked big time with them. Of course, I think the same about Audioslave… Chris Cornell does NOT belong with Rage Against the Machine style guitar and drums. Perhaps this is a similar thing for me.
I looked up the album cover and it DOES look awesome. I think that it might be a little computer generated, but if it is, it isn’t NEARLY as much as the last one. Ugh. I can’t get over “Dance of Death”'s vomitous cover.
I strongly disagree. I thought he did an excellent performance on X-Factor and Virtual XI. A lot of people don’t like those albums but they have really grown on me.
But I agree with the D’ianno thing, he probably was their best vocalist.
People, I admire that you can still try listening to their “new” output. I forgot where I lost heart.
(What a liar. It was in that concert when they played 6 songs off their then-new album, the reunion one with London and Eddie on cover. 6 songs? They ought to have paid me).
I agree, that is one of the few albums I could not stand to buy, simply because of its cover. One of those things where, if the cover is THAT bad, the music can’t be good. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover, I know, but my instinct was right in this case. =P
I’m really pretty anti-Bailey, but some of the lyrics and songs he co-wrote were quite good. His singing just ruined them, somehow. That, and the absolutely terrible Chorus of futureal. That fucked over a good song, I think.
Dance of Death is worth it simply for the Title track and Paschendale. Two of the best songs they’ve ever written. The rest is pretty forgettable.
Bailey is a terriffic singer. You cant fault him, he only wrote a few songs, and they were just the lyrics. The rest was Harris. It’s like how people blame Ripper for Jugulator (which I love) and Demolition, even though he didnt write a single note, and can easily hold his own against Halford.
Again, listen to Blaze’s solo stuff. It’s heavier than Maiden and Dickinson’s stuff combined, and is much better suited to his vocal style and range.
I don’t know if I always go for the heavy stuff, but I’ll try and get some on my next record-buying outing, if I have money left-over after all the classic punk I’m trying to update to CD.
