Perhaps not. If it was that easy you’d have Shakespeares and Nabokovs all over the book industry. I find NGE’s story truly ridiculous on paper. I get irked by characters who don’t do anything to help themselves. I hate giant robots. So why do I like it?

Well… then perhaps that comparison makes sense to you when you’re thinking to yourself. But trying to explain to someone else why work A is better than work B doesn’t work well if you hate the genre work A is in. Your opinion on work A then loses any of its import, because you wouldn’t like any work in the same genre anyway.

So, anyway, I just picked up the first two volumes of the EVA manga, and I enjoyed them, though I should read more of it before making any final opinions. Out of curiosity, would it be worth it to watch the anime after reading the manga?
