Yeah, the bunny shop thing either has them, or has the things that are required for someone else to make them, I can’t quite remember at the moment. He also makes globes, which are funky.
Ok, I’m missing only ONE thing for the Chronolex now: The “magic pipe” which I need to finish the Twilight Board. That sounds like a musical instrument- and yes, I opened the Musical Items options at both Norman’s and Veola’s shops, but the thing hasn’t appeared at either place yet. Any clue where it is/how to get it?
Another thing I can’t seem to synthesize: The “Love Bun” at Veola’s. Every time I try, I get something else! Is there a way to actually make the thing, or is it just a joke of some sort?
I’m also missing one ingredient the “Rebel Cook” wants, something called… Japanese Meal? Again: where can I find that?
magic Pipe: I think that’s made from a metal pipe alteration. Look at the silhouette and see if that gives you a clue.
Japanese Meal is something Normal Cooks up. Random event.
Love Bun: Flour Milk, and Baking powder, Wil.
Edit: Forgot to mention, Wil, there’s a… kind of a glitch with my copy of AI. Although I’m the only out of everyone I talk to who has this problem, apparently it happens that… you can;t see the ending of the game unless you turn off the music in-game. Might need to try that, if it freezes up when you fight the last boss. Sorry.
Ok, got the Magic Pipe- But now I turns out I need something else- a “golden handle”- I had one, but I already used it (making, precisely, another Chronolex ingredient.) I found the first at Iris’ resting place; do more appear there, or do I have to look somewhere else?
(I’m starting to regret not having checked a FAQ for synthesizing items first like I usually do… )
And Norman has opened the Japanese Meal option now (I just need to find its ingredients).
I’ll try that recipe for the Love Bun now, thanks VE. (Odd that the best ingredients for it are not the ones at the end of the list, like with most other items. I guess it’s a joke.)
And thanks for the warning about the glitch. It’s a pity, but nothing that ruins things. (Besides, I assume the Final Boss theme will be available in the Music Menu at some point, right?)
I’ve started playing this game last night, a recommendation from a friend of mine.
I’m not liking it so far. I can appreciate it, but I’m starting to have an itch for DQ8 or more Soul Nomad, which I beat the HELL out of.
The game starts kinda slow. It’s just the PCs adventuring with no major mission for a while. It’s real strength is in characterization- the more you talk to the characters, the more you get to know (and like) them. That includes NPCs as well.
God, let there be a second Golden Handle somewhere… ::dekar!::
More appear, Wil. Don;t worry. Have you checked all the specialty shops already? And… didn;t they sell a Golden item in the town of Duran?
Enter and exit Iris’ Resting Place a few billion times, it’ll reappear EVENTUALLY.
Thanks, Seraph! I did find it! I had to enter and leave the door next to where it was like half a dozen times, but it finally appeared!
And yes, I’ve now completed the Chronolex Sidequest… it ended pretty much like I expected it to, but I still greatly enjoyed it. Very touching. That Veola is truly an unusual character, eh?
I think I’ll try finishing all the other synthesis items (with help from Gamefaqs) before I go finish the game. If there are any that CANNOT be finished until after, please let me know now! (I can’t seem to open all the recipes in the bakery, for example.)
Yeah, I put this game down and started playing SMT: Devil Summoner. Six hours into AI just didn’t keep me motivated enough to finish it.
Happy Hunting, though, Wil.
I think you can do just about everything before endgame, but you might as well go fight Mull and open the bonus dungeon already just so you have some stuff to do afterwards.
I’m warning you, the ending is very, VERY dull and boring, so you might as well get it out of the way and not build any serious expectations.
So, can you still synthesize items after the ending? If so, then I’ll go fight Mull already.
Btw, I understand that there is a sidequest featuring Pamela and some kids. It hasn’t happened yet, and I fear I might miss on it. Or is it that it becomes unavailable after finding her body? If so it’s too late.
I also want to trigger the sidequests involving Lyla. Again: can you get those after beating Mull?
There are no cutoff points that I’m aware of, but quests do trigger at random points. One thing to remember is that no quest will trigger if you have one active currently. I’ve heard of people triggering quests after beating Mull.
That said, the quest to make that one-time-only Dragon thingie with the wandering Alchemist never triggered in my game, so it might be a glitch too.
If you mean the Dragon Gem, I already encountered her… but I had already used up my two Dragon horns. :thud:
HOWEVER, I read somewhere that you can get THREE Dragon Horns by beating the Baal that shows up during one of the Lyla quests! …unfortunately, which monster shows then seems to be random. I’m gonna try it anyway…
Don;t bother, Wil. I think that that’s actually based off of level. If not, then it’s just so freakin; random. if you ever get a horn that way, I’lle at my hat.
Ehh, I can’t seem to trigger that quest anyway (are the subquests in this game REALLY random? WORST game idea ever.) So, hi-ho, hi-ho, off to Mull’s Castle I go…
OK, I fought the Final Boss, got beaten as I expected, then took a few days off to handle some stuff I had to do, and resumed playing today. After figuring out that my only real problem was the Boss’ instant-kill attack (cheap, but it IS the last Boss so I’ll let it pass) and that if Klein died I no longer had a way to resurrect the rest, I beat it by the simple strategy of keeping Klein offscreen until I needed to revive somebody. As Final Boss fights go, it was rather average.
(And VE: I left the sound on, and had no problem during the fight.)
And yeah, I can see why most people would find the ending underwhelming… it basically showed us what the characters were going to do, but did not explain the WHY of any of it. And while the lack of actual animated sequences in this game did not bother me so far, I REALLY think they should have had one for the ending.
Of course, maybe the reason why the ending isn’t that impressive is because it ISN’T truly the ending; someone important to the events was missing, and now I have the option to replay the final fight with him in the party. Don’t know how much of a difference it will make, but it is a good reason to try it.
Of course, before I do that I want to see if I can complete all the other tasks and sidequests. I’m consulting Gamefaqs and I believe I’ve completed Norman’s product line, and I bought everything from the Land of Mana store. I’m puzzled as to where to find some of Lector’s items. And I triggered the Rescue Peki subquests, but apparently the monster who shows up IS decided by party level… and I’m about 20 levels under the requirement to get the one who gives out those Dragon Horns. So I think I’ll forget about that.
There is only one thing that annoys me: I KNOW that, if I had wanted to, I could’ve maxed out everyone’s skills by moving around their Manas as needed. But, I didn’t want to bother. Now I wonder if the final fight (and the game in general) would have been easier if I had done so. I’m tempted to replay it again, but this is a loaned game and I want to return it ASAP.
Anyway, if anybody has any completion tips, now’s the time to give them. And Thanks!
