Ha, I played FFI (and II) on the PS, and it was the first time playing it since I got the NES version when I was 9. I didnt realize how much of a snoozefest it was. FF2 was interesting, at least it had characters with personalities and a story. The level up system was fucked up beyond reason though. But really, talk to any FF-nerd 18 and Under, ask them if they’ve played any FF’s that arent 6+.
My underrated FF is usually your overrated FF. There are people who believe VII is underrated ^-^
My god, this thread is pointless.
Your mom is pointless. (adds about as much to the conversation)
I’ll actually go with FFMQ being underrated, despite there being those in the know who do esteem it quite rightly. The problem is that the poor little game has “FF” in the title, which burdens it with undue expectations. Back when RPGs were a rare creature in the US, in those jejune 16-bit days, we were lucky to spend our time on something like FFMQ, and we liked it! As far as RPGs go, yes, it is easy, the storie’s nothing special, and the graphics aren’t particularly hot, but it has things going for it, foremost being the soundtrack. And if the story, graphics, and battle system aren’t unique, they’re at least capable.
Most under-rated FF game? Well, I could go on and on about the most over-reated FF games (yes, games), but I’d have to say FF9. A lot of people I’ve heard talk about it keep saying “It’s too kiddish, Zidane’s a wimp, blah blah blah…” Okay so it’s not all “serious business” like one certain FF game coughFF7cough, but I thought it was a nice light-hearted change for the series. Hey, Amano’s character design, how could you possibly go wrong? Nomura on the other hand… um… no, just no.
Sadly, I have not had the grand opportunity of playing FFMQ, but it looks and sounds like a real gem of a game to me!
ff5 is definately the most underrated people go on about its boring story but i think the gameplay and the job system more than make up for it
IMO, no RPG game system can make up for a poor story.
FFX-2 Disagrees with you.
That was the only redeeming quality of the game. The only thing that kept me playing. It sure as fuck wasnt the story or script.
I played FF1 in 1990 and I loved it to death; I was completely infatuated with the game. I even wrote a fan-fic about it! My entire family played the game together, we took turns, passed the controller around, etc.
Was it a bad game in 1990? I think the Nintendo Power reviews and FF’s presence in Nintendo Power’s rating system would say that it was in fact an excellent game. In 1990.
So are you saying time turned it into a bad game? Or that it was a bad game all along?
FIFY
Eww FFX-2? Why? How even? o.O
Most underrated? Probably FFIII. The NES game. I mean has it even seen our shores outside of emulation?
Probably because it was the ol’ fashion ATB/skill leveling system that had been in place since FFV. Or the fact that the Dark Knight sphere made it easy to blow through and finish that piece of shit game as quickly as possible. I dunno.
And FFIII was remade for the DS. How fucking stupid are you to not notice that?
I’d have to say FF8. Not because of its battle-system - which wasn’t underrated since its basic model became the system of future FFs. I’m talking about the story, which was compelling and featured well-developed characters, but which was panned by many at the time for being cliche.
It was? Damn, since when? Well at least it took them a lot longer to get it out than the rest
Never bothered to finish the the game meself… got to the end boss and wasn’t strong enough to finish her off and couldn’t leave the Dark World… 'at’s what I get for being a chronic under-leveller, I guess.
Were you serious? If not, I feel like a tool…
If I said no now, would you believe me? >.>
Probably.
Well then.
No, I wasn’t serious.

I think six, because you barely heard much of it, compared to seven or ten. And I think it has a MUCH better story line than either of those
Six? Us older gamers practically worship the game. How is it underrated at all?
