Booyah! That’s what i’m talking about… won every award they nominated in!
Who won best actor? I forgot to watch.
Sean Penn.
It’s worth noting that with 11 wins, LotR:RotK is now tied for most Oscars with Ben Hur and Titanic.
Honestly, I was more than a little pissed beacause the first two didn’t get it…but now I am happy. I am VERY happy. :yipee:
ROTK is just that good.
:victoly:
Pfft, no its not. But the movies were such an endeavor to make and such a grand achievement, for the acadamy to not give them their dues would be disgraceful. The reason the first two movies didn’t do well at the Oscars is because there were 3 movies. It isn’t fair for other well deserving movies to get gipped on a series of movies that isn’t even complete yet. Personally, I think the Lord of the Rings movies are some of the most boring cinematic expierences of my life, however I do believe that the movies deserve every award they got. I don’t like the movies, specifically because I fell asleep in all of them, but that does not denounce the sheer scale of the movies - the scenery and cinematography is incredible. The acting, a little iffy, but that’s why they weren’t nominated for any acting awards.
And Johnny Depp got robbed. Sean Penn was good in Mystic River, but his character lacked a lot of dimension. The character was very flat, a very grieving and tortured soul. Which is great, but there was way more to Depp’s character, which in my opinion, is far more challenging to an actor than just being the same the whole time.
The show was great, and I applauded the Blake Edwards tribute. A very well deserved honorary oscar.
And Adrian Brody was a hoot.
Kudos to Lord of the Rings. The deserved every award they won.
I think Bill Murray should have won best actor. But alas, the Academy does not like humour. Sean Penn would have been my second choice.
I’m glad for LOTR. Something like that deserves praise. I felt Johnny Depp should’ve gotten best actor just for the fact he’s done so much and received such little acclaim. Oh well the world is picky…
Heh, yeah … My sister kicked me off at 9:30 last night just so she could find this, specifically, out.
Viggo Mortison (spelling?) should have won Best Actor. He was awsome in RotK! And that would have made RotK the record holder, without having to share.
I can’t believe the books turned into such good movies. I never made it through all three books.

Except to be best actor for a movie, you generally have to be the standout lead role. The LotR movies really had no true lead role. It was more of an ensemble cast, and as such, none of them should have been nominated for anything higher than Best Supporting Actor or Actress. The only exception I can think to this Best Lead Actor standout qualifier is Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. He took up about 30 minutes of the movie, yet his presence was so intense and so felt that he was the main role without having the main role screen time.
And I’m sorry, but LotR:RotK does not deserve more Oscars than Ben Hur. Hell, I’m hard pressed to say it deserves as many as Ben Hur. If only Ben Hur had gone 12 for 12 rather than 11 for 12… Stupid Room at the Top winning best adapted screenplay… Although, to be fair, AFI’s number one comedy also lost to Room at the Top in that category.
Gollum gets my vote for “Best Supporting Animation.”
I dont think ROTK deserved that many awards either. Dont get me wrong, I love the movies (hate the books), but still, I think it went a little overboard.
There’s no way I’ll ever watch the Oscars. I wouldn’t stay up that late without good reason. =P
I thought Adrian Brody presenting the Best Actress award was worth the whole show. Damn that’s funny. He should do more movies, he seems like a capable actor.

Well, I was very pleased that he got nominated, because the sort of movie he was in (a summer blockbuster) is not generally the kind that get any sort of awards recognition beyond special effects. But I don’t think he should’ve won Best Actor, because the role wasn’t really all that complex. He was basically just riffing a Keith Richards impersonation with the usual swashbuckler flair of pirate movies. That said, I don’t think Sean Penn really earned it either, but the acting awards went to very safe chioces anyway so it wouldn’t be that unexpected. I can probably name six other movies where Johnny Depp is more deserving of a Best Actor award than he’d be for Pirates, and I really really liked him in that movie and as an actor in general.
My biggest worry is that I’m not sure if Big Fish qualified for this year’s awards or not (it was nominated for best score but I thought it came out too late for this year’s awards). If it did qualify, then it is a sham that it did not net basically any nominations.
Anyway, it was a boring show in all, but I’m glad the Acadmeny finally woke up and gave the LotR series the award credit it deserves. Although I still think that Fellowship should’ve won Best Picture, McKellan best supporting actor for Fellowship, and Andy Serkis should’ve been nominated for best supporting actor (Gollum) in Two Towers.
And I found Adrian Brody annoying, but that’s just me.
My brother said that since everyone knew there would be two other sequels that the last two movies didn’t get much of nominations cause they would probably pick up every award again if it was so. Makes sense to me, but i wouldn’t think just because a movie won an oscar means its good. I thought the Two towers got really dull at some points, but otherwise it was okay, i haven’t seen Return of the King yet.
Actually, the last two movies got their fair share of nominations too. They probably didn’t win in most of them (aside from visual effects, cinematography, and probably sound) due to the whole actually being one long 10 hour plus movie released in three parts.
oh ^ _ ^; opps i couldn’t remember i don’t keep up with awards shows, takes too long to get to the actual award annoucement and the commericals, i really hate commericals. I was really hoping for Johnny Depp to win because i just loved his character, but your’e right Merlin it was as Depp said it was a keith richards impersonation. I haven’t seen Mystic river of course, but maybe Sean Penn was good.
Mortensen. He got such a strange name because he’s Danish. The Danes all have strange names.
I honestly haven’t seen any of the movies that were nominated for anything. What can I say, I don’t go to the cinema very often. And I’m not really a big fan of big movies.
