I thought this was funny, but don’t read the spoilers if you haven’t heard this one.
On Chapter 5, speak with Shinra on the Gullwing after visiting Farplane Ruins. He says something like “I’ve been examining the Farplane, and it appears that it’s the source of all the life on the planet… In fact, there is enough energy here for us to use some of it to power our cities and machines.”
I know, it’s all over in RPGS. But the idea was the name “Shinra” and the fact that he said he would extract energy from the planet and convert it into electricity. That’s what Shinra Inc was known for in FF7. 8)
There are often small references to past FFs in newer games. The ending theme to FF8 was actually from FF1, and there are small references throughout FF9. Cloud’s Buster Sword was in the weapons shop in Lindblum, and someone mentions a spikey-haired warrior there. In the ending to FF9, I think the phrase no cloud or squall can hinder us is used.
FF9 has dozens of references to other FF games; it was designed like that. In the other games it’s not so common. The ending theme you refer to was actually used in every FF up until FFX.

Yeah, that line made me crack up. I’m just relieved that they didn’t end up calling Zidane “Storm” or “Gale” or something like that.
It was Zidane who made reference to the “spikey headed guy”.
And in FF8, when you die, it is the prelude in the other FF’s.
I need to stop playing so much D2 and put the time into FFx-2… It’s hard re-adjusting to all the diffrent battle systems. Just earlier, my level 62 pally beat a level 74 barb, who had taken the gold from one of my weaker chars… anywho, when i killed him, i took his money… then when he tried to get back to his body, i kill him naked, then took even more… He got so pissed off, it was hillarious… Guess he shoulda learned not to take people money when you kill em in duel, huh ?
Is it just me, or does Rikku look really dorky as a white mage ? And why is Yuna the hottest black mage i have ever seen ?
I just keep Paine a warrior.
I just saw it, and I agree as well. No, I don’t think Spira IS the same planet as in FF7, but what Shinra AND the other gullwings said, seems to be a FF7 reference, in the whole exploiting-spiritual-energy-for-power thing. (Note that most characters in FF7, including Shinra Inc., did NOT realize that they were tapping their own afterlife for power.) You have to admit, the idea is… unusual.
Originally posted by Cidolfas Btw, after replaying the game a second time and seeing the scene Dalton mentioned again, I think he is right about the crossover. nod Alrighty, thats another for the books. Dalton, if you want you can write up the crossover all “fancy like” for the site, and then email it to me. This just makes it easier for me to keep track of things.
Could someone out their tell me if FFX-2 is worth buying or not? I already have Final Fantasys 7 8 9 and 10 but wonder if the new one is worth my hard earned cash?
This should be in a new thread, not posted in a dead one. -_-
Anyway, it all depends on your expectations. FFX-2 is very different from the others. There’s less of an emphasis on story and more of an emphasis on lack of clothing. It’s a lot more fast-paced and fun, and it does continue the story of FFX if you liked it enough. If you find yourself feeling disgusted at the thought of Yuna singing in a pop concert, though, you might not enjoy it that much.
