I couldn’t finish FF7 because of these damn things.
Ooh, if some on could find one a tonberry would make a good smilie.
Tonberries are pussies.

:thud:
Even if you don’t play it primarily for the story, voluntarily spoiling it and destroying any chance of it impacting you is going a bit too far IMO.
Because of Blizzard fanboys.
Maybe RPGs should make it so you can only get EXP from doing quests, PERIOD. Baldurs gate was a step in the right direction, by giving enough EXP for quests to be noticeable (often actually giving levelups. I remember once having my WHOLE PARTY levelup from this, and for D&D that is awesome).
Anyways, I usually don’t try powerlevelling, though for some games, like MMORPGs, I make exceptions. I usually prefer not to, if possible, however.
I love Star Ocean 3’s story, however, that game is incredibly hard in keeping at a decent level state. I spent a fair amount of time at two specific locations (Styx and Station #5) to gain money, because the enemies aren’t too difficult and I could keep the bonus gauge for 20, 30 fights if not more (higher item drops + 3x XP + 2x $) meaning I got the entire party wearing armor you’re supposed to buy for 45k a piece, weapons that sell for 55k and had well over 600k spare cash to burn on crafting, smithing, alchemy and other item creation skills.
And considering how expensive item making can be…
However, it takes 1 fight to gain a level with a full gauge when you’re in the 40-50 range, 2 fights to gain between 50-70, 3 for 80+. This means that I was much MUCH stronger when I left those areas, but at the same time it kept the game semibalanced as it allowed me to continue getting my battle trophies (Beat bosses under 1 minute + beat bosses without taking damage, gotta love Albel and a maxed out Airslash, stay long range and cancel-chain them to do 20-30k damage hits while Nel and Fayt do healing/melee)
So, yeah, some games have leveling issues, SO3 only has a minor leveling when you’re early in the game (Getting from lv20 to 35 is a pain, nothing pays really well except the stuff in the side-dungeon of the Aquatic City Surferio west of Aquios)
Ah, but the thing is, they DO impact me! For example, I knew PERFECTLY WELL that Aeris was going to die in FF7, and even knew exactly WHEN. It STILL got to me, because by then I felt that I’d come to know the character, and her ending was a terribly unfair one. What can I say? I’ve always been able to keep knowledge and emotion separate in my head. I’m like this for movies, tv shows, etc. as well.
Hoo boy, Aeris is probably the most uninteresting character in the history of Final Fantasy…not only is she bland and a complete stereotype (then again, WHO ISN’T in FF?), she is, up to now, the only character that has annoyed me to the point of my never using her unless absolutely necessary by the storyline.
That’s it, I’m staying outta the thread from now on.
