Time blurs together for me. What was that again?
Whenever I fought back against the people who picked on me in junior high and high school, the teachers sent me to the principal. When I said they started it the standard response was generally “I didn’t see them, I just saw you.” I got picked on a lot. Although I admit the school did press charges when a guy threw me in a trash can.
The Columbine High School Shooting…when Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris killed I think it was 13 people including themselves in a shooting spree aimed at jocks and other races. The two were also massive Neo-Nazis, which is certainly not a good thing. It caused a mass media frenzy on what’s corrupting our kids and making them “ticking timebombs”, and led to a bunch of bullshit answers like Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, DOOM, The Matrix, and all sorts of violent video games, when people should have realized it was the fact that high school was hell for them because the elite didn’t think they were worthy enough to live. I despise the two’s actions, but there were pther kids at fault, the ones who felt it necessary to make their lives hell.
I look back on that and think about how back in high school, my friends (all three of them) and I would talk about doing things like that, although we were never serious. It was just idle talk. Two years later we would have been put in jail for talking like we did.
However, you can’t blame everything on the other kids that treated them badly. I was treated badly in high school, but I got through without murdereing people. Those two are still responsible for their own actions.
And indeed they are, but what I’m pissed about is how no one ever came and helped them, or saw what they might be up to. People neglected them…and tragically we paid a high cost. I still find their actions unacceptable, but to blame it on Doom is ludicrous thank you very much Joe Leiberman.
I hate this state so very much.
I do agree blaming video games is ridiculous, I personally use violent video games to release anger. Nothing like killing people in GTA3 to make you less likely to kill your boss.
No, I’d laugh the case out of court. But I’m not the judge, and someone got stabbed in the face. And probation is almost the equivalent of not being punished whatsoever.
That’s not true. While this kid isn’t the biggest risk in the world, I have friends on probation who frequently break the law (underage drinking, smoking weed, shit like that), and probation has them scared shitless. If they get caught doing anything illegal, then they have a high chance of being sent to jail.
Jesus. I’m on the bullied kid’s side. Hey, if you keep pushing a person around you’ve got to expect that you might get to face consequences, aka him striking back sooner or later His own stupidity which brought him his scars. But yes indeed, it’s progress. Maybe ONE day the world will reach a point where the committers will be punished instead of the victims?
You play with fire, you get burned
Is it okay then to murder and not be punished if the person you murdered has given you untold painful mental anguish?
I think what Sin and the others mean is that it still isn’t ok to murder someone who causes you such grief, but sometimes bullies and such never think of the consequences of their actions. A human life is a human life, and killing someone out of that is wrong. There are alternatives to dealing with bulllies i.e. the law, martial arts, parents/teachers, not always the barrel of a gun. However, sometimes the people that take pleasure in torturing other kids/people don’t know what they might be getting themselves into. They don’t know how that bullied kid will respond or what the bullied kid might do.
I was responding to DT.
Ok maybe his side was a little too biased…
Tell that to the guy I saw on TV once who could swing around two double-flamed torches at once and make it look totally badass.
I’d say that depends. If someone would have kept me in his closet and played his mind games with me for years, he can expect to wake up with a butcher knife in his forehead once I get the chance But for bullying? Hell no.
Well then that’s just fucked up to begin with…and whoever does that probably deserves his or her comeuppance. Serial killers for example would be people that I’d snipe anyday…but bullies would probably deserve just an ass kicking to let them know that they’re not #1 in the world.
I’d say that depends. If someone would have kept me in his closet and played his mind games with me for years, he can expect to wake up with a butcher knife in his forehead once I get the chance But for bullying? Hell no. Everyone is responsible for his actions. If you push a kid in the mud it’s not something you should get sentenced t death for; and if you rape someone on the street I doubt anyone would go “aww, you little brat you. Don’t do that again, kay? Now help mommy in the garden.”
The worse the crime, the stronger the punishment. Simple enough?
