Internet RPGs

Okay folks.

I’ve tried Darkages (by nexon), Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, and Ragnarock Online and I couldn’t really get into any of them. They were okay, just didn’t hold my interest for the amount of money I had to pay.

My question is this: Is Final Fantasy 11 really that much better? I’m thinking of trying it, but I’m just thinking its going to be more of the same stuff.

Also, are they’re any other internet RPGs that are a cut above the rest?

In my opinion, online gaming in general has gone to hell. Every server is crawling with idiots, whether there’s a monthly fee (regardless of how high said fee is) or not… though they’re more plentiful (if that were possible) on free game servers.

So I say don’t waste your time with MMOGs in general.

oh, and it’s FREE

I will admit I haven’t played a lot of those you mentioned, but from what I’ve been told they all centre around hack and slash and allows you to do litte more.

From what I have read, Final Fantasy XI allows you to do more than walk around and kill monsters: It allows you to open shops, bake, fish, and so on. That should at least give more variation. I’m still not sure how the level up system works in it though.

All the mmorpgs which have seemed to be revolutionary different have been cancelled. Midgard, for instance. Instead of progressing up through experience, you would progress through working. Be it hunting, cooking, shipping, carpenting. I really wish they would have gone through with that.

I shall make a point of checking that out, Mr. Anderson …

Does it have a kawaii “healer” class that’s damn unlikely to get PK’ed because a) they obnoxiously ask you to heal them and b) you can teleport them to a monster-infested territory a la RO?

Ultima Online is slike that, you can do much more than just kill crap. You can buy ships, houses, bake, mine, all that fun stuff.

The leveling system was pretty simple, as you described: You can hav a max of 700 skill points (wiht 100 being the highest in a specific skill) and you raise them by using tje skill (Fighting monsters with swords would increase your skill in Sword, Mining would increase your mining skill, Magic would increase with casting spells successfully, so on, so forth). If you already maxed out at 100, you could set unwanted skills to drop when another skill is raised or lock them so they wouldnt’ raise anymore. HP and MP was fairly low since stats were treated like that too (Raise streght, which raised HP, Intelligence for MP, DExterity for Stamina) and you could max out at 225 there.

I still thing RO is really fun. Everquest has gone to the dogs though. I dont play everday, but probably everyweekend on my friends CPU. Its terrible now, its all people spamming their Ebay auctions, looking for porn, or running around asking to get married. RO isnt that bad, yet.

Most MMO games now aren’t original and get boring after about a week. I’m with Inconsistent on this one; online gaming has indeed gone to hell.

Someone actually agreed with me.

I dunno. Online RPGs aren’t my style. You have to deal with these twelve year olds who got beat up at school and then they take their rage out on you with insults, ksing, or pking you. Like counterstrike.

Well at least in Counterstrike people are meant to kill each other. I just hate it how some people get an unnatural amount of head shots. :stuck_out_tongue:

Having never actually played CS, I’m just gonna go “OMG WTF BBQ FHQWHGADS CAMPER FAG.”

It DOES have a healer class, but its healing system doesn’t work quite like the RO healing system…

And if you don’t want to be “PK’ed”, there are a couple of servers that are “PK proof” that you can try out…

[tries to play it a bit and doesn’t get very far]

… Okay, never mind, Mr. Anderson.

I noticed that tibia is a bit anal about that account number they assign you. I really wish they would have put it in the email with the password. Now I can’t login. or create a new account since I only have one email address.

You could easily retrieve that account number you know, just use their lost accoun form…

Or maybe next time, just write down whatever they tell you to write down…

Having played JK2 for about a year, I can safely say that playing any FPS online sucks. You have the lamers, who just annoy, but don’t do anything else. You have the spawn-campers who just sit at spawn points and rack up kills, then you have the whiners(aka n00bs) who whine about how “OMFG WERE PLAYING A STAR WARS GAME AND HES UZING TEH FORCE!!! WTF!!! FORCE N00BS!!”

Hmmmm, yeah, don’t think i’ll try anymore out. I’ll stick to good ol’ non online gaming.
