I wrote a... fanfic!?

How bizarre. This isn’t my best writing, but it’s my only fanfic (probably ever) so take it or leave it! :stuck_out_tongue:

I wanted to write something very short and with short paragraphs as an experiment, and so I made it into a fanfic. Is that weird? Anyway, here’s a bizarre FFVI fanfic:

==========================================================

The darkness encompasses everything. We don’t know where we are. We don’t know who we are.

144A, 512 B, that is when we shall come into being. We don’t know what that is, nor what we are, we just know what the prophecies tell. We don’t know if we’ve been here for years, or for seconds. The prophecy says that The Group will step on 144A, 512 B and…

What was now darkness is now light! A swirl of color erupts, phantasms create a vast plain, and we can finally see us. Wait… I have an identity now. I am StrayCat 4! I have a name! My buddies are StrayCat1, 2, and 3! We’re going to catch mice, and lay in the sun, and just have a good old… what is this? Four strangers approach us.

There’s a young man who has grief in his eyes, a green boything, a little girl with a paintbrush, and a woman dressed all in white. Are they traveling to a wedding? Are they just four friends out for a walk? Who knows. We approach them, mewling.

The brooding one with the gray hair all too young speaks, “Did you already get this one?” What is he talking about? Get what one? Oh, how exciting! I love games! When we didn’t exist, we’d play “count the nothings,” and we always won. How jolly a day this will be!

The manimal spins around… hahaha! Yay! What fun! “VWAOOUGH! GAOOOOOO!” Uh… what? Is that even common? I can’t seem to understand this thing.

The girl pulls out a paintbrush, “I guess that means no.” The green man stays the way he is, only poised towards us, ready for some sort of contest. The man and woman pull out… swords? What have we ever done! Oh, dear. These are some crazy cat killers, out to wear our hides and beat us into…

Hey! That man stole my tonic, I’ll have him… wait. Where exactly was I keeping that thing? I feel around. It seems like I have some pockets. I’m a cat! How do I have pockets?

The woman in white slashes my best buddy, Stray Cat 2, into bits. His head… his head is at least five feet from his body! His entrails scatter the ground. I do not like this game! This is a horrible, horrible game! We must fight back.

But the little girl doesn’t seem to notice the horror going around her, because she’s DRAWING! How could you draw at a time like this… she’s drawing another cat? A cat leaps out of her page and scratches Stray Cat 1! By the Nothingness that Pervades, what is the meaning of this? She falls to the ground, and breathes her last breath. O Fate, why is it that you have struck down two who are so young, so…

“No, Gau, not that one! Oh, damnit. I meant the one next to that, not…”

The green man appears to be a great beast, while still being in his form. “GRARRRRRRRRGH!” Ahh! I want to run, but I’m transfixed… I can’t… wait- I can move! I run up to him and scratch him on the nose.

Well, that didn’t seem to do much.

“GAU RARGH MRRARFFGH!” The ground shakes, and a hole opens up below us. The little girl drops dead, and so does my friend and… I can see… nothing? Why do you take this away from us, why?

The darkness encompasses everything. We don’t know where we are. We don’t know who we are.

Hah, that was pretty funny. Nice spin on perspective and I like how you dealt with the bizarre features of a Final Fantasy battle system, particularly the tonic.

That was freakyweirdcool.

Aww. Sometimes I do start to fantasize about how all those random encounters feel, nice seeing it put into words. It goes from odd to cute to disturbing and sad in less than half a page, which is quite impressive. My mind actually went “please Gau, run along with them” because that thinking about games and lying in the sun was just heartbreaking in compare to the “this is a horrible game”.

Wow, that is original and sad- and well written. Congrats, GAP!

Btw, this reminds me of the gone-but-not-forgotten Kidd Radd online comic strip. The main villain was a video game fairy who became hateful precisely because in her original existence as a random monster she only existed to get killed. I can see how that can drive someone nuts. You story is more eloquent, though.

Wow- thanks guys. I didn’t realize that this would have such a good reception.

Also- there was a Kidd Radd comic? Where is it? o_o

Not a comic, a webcomic. It’s over now but it’s a heck of a story, starts as a comedy but ends as a surprisingly insightful epic. I recommend it. You can still read it here:

It’s good because it doesn’t take itself seriously… I can’t believe you fic’d Stray Cats. lmao that is too cool

You realize that you, in saying a fanfic was okay, have just blown my worldview apart, Hades? That and my head. ;D

I never thought fanfics couldn’t be good. I just thought that the vast majority weren’t :stuck_out_tongue: And I still think that. But this one’s fresh and cool :stuck_out_tongue:

Won’t disagree with a word of that, mate.
