It’s action porn. I’m not sure what else I could say, it’s a movie about dudes stabbing each other. It might not be a trascendental artwork of narrative quality, but it was an awesome movie about dudes stabbing each other.
Also, when you try to inject story and character into plots that were all about the bloody massacre to begin with, you get shit like Troy.
Complaining that there isn’t a deep plot to 300 is like going to McDonalds and complaining you didn’t get a filet mignon.

I haven’t seen either the movie or the comic, but from what I read of it, wasn’t the whole thing a story being told later by someone who, ah, “embellished” the facts? Even the surreal look was meant to evoke that, no?
