Sounds like portable final fantasy 7,8,9 , etc… o_o
It definetly could give nintendo a run for its money (as nintendo currently owns the portable systems area). Mainly, people haven’t been able to produce materials of the quality Nintendo has. The problem I foresee with this bad boy is cost. x_X
<img src=“http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/tenchimaru/td.gif”> That thing will cost an ungodly amount of money, and we just have to see if it’ll get 3rd party support. If I was a developer, I’d stick with the 20-year-old king, rather than an expensive youngster.
It looks pretty cool. But if it was over $100 (which it most likely will have to be) I don’t know how well it’d do; I certainly wouldn’t have the money to buy it. Maybe it can be a christmas present <.<
they topped nintendo with the psx vs n64 after the SNES and we all know SNES owned the competition of those days. I don’t think we should underestimate Sony (for now)
It looks interesting, although it does look expensive. I’ll have to look into it; I’m usually indecisive about something unless I know more about it (unless it’s something like a new Zelda sequel :P).

Granted that, but Nintendo was slow to react, and while the 64 was very very good, it wasn’t quite as good as the PSX, in name of game variety, and usually graphics.
But only time will tell. I’d put my bet on the GB though.

Handhelds are a different market than consoles. Sega topped Nintendo with the Genesis back in 1989, then, when Sega was still on top in 1992, they released Game Gear. What happened to it? Well, it landed ass-first on the pavement, when Gameboy threw it out the door. I predict the same for the PSP. Not because I don’t trust or like Sony, but the thought of Sony coming in the door with a handheld that may have as many as 20 launch titles and a handful of 3rd party games and trying to compete with GameBoy Advance and its library of over 1,000 games that span over 14 years… It’s not very likely to think that Sony could win. IF it was PSX compatible, it’d do well. Since it uses proprietary discs… it doesn’t stand a chance.
Yeah, and also, mind you, the GG was superior to the GB in most ways ('specially graphics. Color vs. 4-Tone spinach). And the GB pretty much won.
And as Sat said, the GB series, being backward compatable, has many more games… and in a moredurable format to boot, considering the protability (Yeah, I know, optical disks hold more, but you have to worry about scratches and so on.) And then there’s the extra hardware: DVD player’s nice, but is it nessecary? And memory cards for a handheld?
Unless you could play PSX/1/2 (PSX at the very least) games on it, I wont’ be impressed.
It has potential, being a Sony device; a firm who has made a brandname for itself, it will have a series of games that can be quickly ported, and it’s more powerful than the GameBoyAdvance. Then comes all the things it lacks and ruin the whole image.
I think the storage space is definetly something we should keep in mind. That easily gets a psx FF in there. I agree reverse compatibility works in nintendo’s favor, but I do think that if the price isn’t too high, nintendo might have a run for its money if Sony plays its cards right.
