Help!

PLEASE someone…
please explain the FF series…

I just read that Dawn of Souls weren’t part of the series.

I’d like to play from beginning to end all of these FF games, but I don’t know where
to start.

Admin, NICE emotes!

Well, each FF game is a stand alone game. None of them are connected, storyline wise, so you don’t need us telling you what to play first and whatnot. That’s just up to you. If you want to go old school, with less focus on graphics, storyline, and character development, go with FF1-5, or vice versa with FF6 and onwards. It doesn’t really matter.

ans so on.

I mean the order of the games themselves…

Like in Japan, FF6 is FF3 in America…

what are all of the conversions?

FF4 in Japan is FF2 here…

this is where I’m lost…

I’ve played dawn of souls, mystic quest, FF3(US) 7,8,9,X, CC

It’s just two that you mentioned I beleive.

Yes… only Final Fantasy IV was released here as FF2 (SNES), and Final Fantasy VI was released as FF3 (SNES). All other games and all other versions have the right numbers (for example, Dawn of Souls has FF1 and the original Japanese FF2, not FF4).

What’s the Japanese version of FF3?

I’ve got Dawn of Souls, so I need to get Anthology(5&6 Japan) Chronicles(4) Did they ever release US versions of 5 and 6?

I’m not sure if they ever released a US version of 5, but I’m pretty sure they released 6, as just that 6.

As for 3, it is the only Final Fantasy game that has never been translated and sold over here. And as far as I’m aware they aren’t planning on it either. But I maybe mistaken about that.

Thank you ALL…most helpful you’ve been!

(ouch…that sounded ALOT like Yoda huh? )

Well…to play FFX-2 and understand the storyline you should play FFX first. It’ s the only FF that has a sequel (this far).

A remake of FF3 is under development for the Nintendo DS. FF5 and 6 have been released as FF Anthology, and FF4 as part of FF Chronicles.

ok, I’ve played FFX, but heard X-2 wasn’t worth the time, did I hear wrong?

Some like it, others don’t.

I enjoyed it a lot. It was fun. But if you’re turned off by shameless fan service, J-Pop, or effeminate Al Bhed wearing Speedos, then you might not really go for it.

Depends on whether you like a strong plot or not. Because X-2 most definitely does NOT have one. It’s rather . . . I don’t know. Semi-serious? I didn’t find the plot particularly compelling.

The game mechanics are excellent. Graphics mostly very impressive, battle system very fast and furious, the dressphere system extremely engaging. And there is a LOT to do in the game. It kept me going for a long time, I think I clocked up well over 100 hours with all the optional stuff.

My only beef with it was the flaky plot, the dull characters, the grating childish cheeriness of the whole game feel. There was a lot of Yuna character development, I suppose, but I honestly could have lived without it - most unlike Square, it was very much laid out in front of you instead of leaving you to follow underlying subtleties in character interactions and development. It’s only been a few weeks since I finished it and I can’t say I remember much about the plot.

That said, I usually can’t stand games with abysmal plots, which means the actual gameplay must have had something to keep me playing. Depends on what you like. It’d be impossible for someone to tell you whether it was good or bad, since it’s really all a matter of taste.

Most people agree that FFX-2 has FANTASTIC gameplay, but people still reject it because it’s “girly”, or “its story sucks”, etc. I guess a lot of RPG players take themselves too seriously and forget that video games are supposed to be about having fun.

Good one. He-he.

That’s my main complaint. Also, I could never really get into FFX’s characters, and X2 was the same thing, only worse. The gameplay was pretty fun, but i’m a story freak, especially in RPGs.

FFX-2 surely isn’ t as deep as FFX, storyline-wise and gameplay-wise, but I liked it, even if I liked FFX much more. It’ s hard to say what FFX-2 is like…rent it if you’ re not sure you’ ll like it.
