Help, Advice, and donations Welcome!

So, a close personal friend of mine has a problem. He’s 19 and works partime. HE went to college for one semester using a business that you paid to find grants and scholerships (sp) for you. 100% Garanteed. As it turned out after that one semester was over they were shut done for fraud, so my Friend owes about $3000 to the university. His parents want him this summer to either

a) Join the Air Force
b) Go back to school.

I have no idea what to tell him since I really doubt working part time will pay all that back by the summer if he want to return there, and he really doesn’t want to join the Air Force.

Some advice would be appriciated because he parents are really pressuring him to join the AF and he getting stresses and he really is a nice guy, and I’m very concerned.

Would he be able to get the money in time if he worked full-time? If so, I’d recommend that.

Full-time work would seem to be the best suggestion, yeah. DON’T give in to pressure according to what other people want- especially if it’s a life-changing move like joining the air force. It has to be his decision alone.

If that scholarship company was convicted of fraud, wouldn’t it be forced to pay any of the money your friend paid to that company. He may even be able to bring his own lawsuit against that company for fraud.

Work part time, go to school, and use a loan to cover the school expenses.

Also if the school has air force ROTC, then that would probably work too.

he has to wait for the settlement to come in, i believe they sued them or something like that. He can’t part time, because he has a job at a grocery store and they don’t need anyone full time now.

Let me know what happens Alyx. I’m interested as to how this company is going to defend itself.

okay, I will.

He’s 19. Its his decision if he wants to risk being shipped off to Iraql if his parents want to be jackoffs, fuck em. I don’t get why people have problems dissociating from their parents. Anyawy, I’m not gonna go on a rant about that… He should do as Vorpy advised. Most schools have financial aid offices. He should check it out.

As for the guarantee thing, he’s a moron for thinking it’d work. That’s like the spam we get in our email.

Well, hopefully the company was stupid and has a really crappy contract, or if he was smart enough, he wouldn’t have signed one.

Don’t join the military just for a job. There’s nothing wrong with the military, but enlisting is like quitting smoking: You damn well better want to be doing it, or it’s gonna be hell. (Think: Full Metal Jacket)

I heard that you can only Quit for the first so many weeks then you stuck for a few years i the (UK) Army.
