I think that Homer Simpson said it best:
“It works in THEORY, in THEORY communism works.”

I WILL GIVE HIM YOUR REGARDS.
For heavens’ sake, communism was a monstrosity
You know, life in the old CCCP in the Post-Stalin era wasn’t that bad for an average soviet citizen. Especially if you didn’t know what exactly was happening on the other side of the “iron curtain”.
Think of Cuba, but with a higher standard of living. Free universal healthcare, as opposed to poor, sick Americans dying because they couldn’t afford to go to a hospital (that is what was shown on soviet news reports.) Free education - one out of two Russians/Soviets in their late twenties had some kind of university degree, meanwhile poor Americans had no means to pursue a higher education. Full employment across Motherland, just as miserable Americans are struggling with high unemployment levels and some of them become homeless and surviving by begging on the streets of “Hell cities” like New York or Chicago. Rampant discrimination in America, while in CCCP all ethnic groups are equal (in theory). Soviet universities welcomed African students with open arms just as American police and National Guard soldiers were shooting at a peaceful civil liberties movement marchers.
The undeniable proof that USSR is the best country in the world to live in, was established in 1962.
First man in space! Yuri Gagarin, this guy was like a dynamite combo of James Dean, Elvis Presley and Brandon Lee (The Crow)
But then shit happened. I blame the decline of the Soviet Empire on MTV. How those miserable bastards make such a beautiful music? How come those friggin Americans have so many cars, TVs, phones, other stuff? Why those capitalist pigs can buy things that Soviet citizen can only dream about?
Freedom of speech. Freedom of movement. How exotic and so desirable… And the SOYUZ rocket exploded in 1990.
Funny thing though, 15 years later:
Russia: nostalgic for the Soviet era
Teenagers are wearing T-shirts carrying the slogan “My country, the USSR”. Rock groups recycle Soviet hits. FM radio in Moscow broadcasts more songs in Russian. Chic cafes and advertising use Soviet symbols. Postmodernist nostalgia is big in Russia.Polls by reputable institutes confirm this: 57% of Russians want the USSR back (2001); 45% consider the Soviet system better than the current system; 43% actually want a new Bolshevik revolution (2003).
Shit. I am exosted. Now I want to go back.

Just look how happy these mini commies are ![]()
Kids don’t know what the fuck is going on.
They do what they’re told.
Communism, Capitalism. They’re both bad.
But which has had a worse track record?
The track records are remarkably equal.
[ul]
[li]Both have killed millions.
[/li][li]Both communist and capitalist countries have a lousy literacy rate. ( Higher on Cuba than in the US. )
[/li][li]Both communist and capitalist countries have lousy health coverage. ( Higher on Cuba than in the US. )
[/li][li]Both foster a large and relatively equal amount of unhappy people.
[/li][/ul]
And so forth.
You’re quite right.
Well laid out, actually. I tend to agree with you.
Communist countries also tend to lie more on such documents displaying this information

Soviet joke, after they watched some MTV and got spoiled (disillusioned ):
Whats the difference between propaganda in the USSR and USA?
In the USSR, people know its false, in the USA people just lap it up and tell everybody else in the world that it is them who are wrong.
[ul]
[li]Both have way too many people that have no idea what they’re talking about, yet never shut their mouth when it comes to talking about communism/ capitalism
[/li][/ul]
That’s why it’s so nice to argue about: You can argue all day and night and not have to know anything about what you’re talking about!
Which is why I don’t argue in favor of either side
Anybody noticed this was a birthday thread and not a political argument thread? :hahaha;
I love you guys, but quit fighting, this thread is tearing us apart!!! :bowser:
you all have ADHD
Happy B-Day Ho-dog!!! :toast:
Nobody is fighting. We are celebrating.
Yes. Funny though, now that these kids are all gown up, half of them think that life was better under Soviet regime when they were little.
Right.
I think that I might know a little more about that than your average Joe or Ivan though. Not as an expert, but as a “lab rat”, since I had a chance (if you can call it that) to participate in both “trials”. So far, capitalist “research team” treated me and my parents much better. As for communism, the “trial” had to be cancelled due the lack of funds and some test subjects escaping from the lab and hiding in the capitalist lab. The cheese there was much tastier ![]()
A clarification to my previous post:
When I mentioned a “Soyuz” rocket explosion, it was a metaphor for a Soviet Union collapse. “Soyuz” means Union in Russian and some Russians used it as a name for their country. Just like United States of America are called simply US.
Oh yah, as for MTV being responsible for that collapse – that was just an attempt at sarcasm. The cracks in the “Iron curtain” appeared way before MTV went on the air. During Brezhnev era (late sixties and seventies) population became so sceptical of the Soviet regime, allmost nobody believed the fairy tales about communism. The political jokes in USSR way outnumbered the Blonde, the ethnic, or any other kind of jokes in the West. Plus, Soviet economy was stagnant, and which probably went into decline from about 1970.
'cause Allende’s one badass motherfucker.
EDIT : Yes, I know Allende was socialist and not communist. Fuck you.
I think communism in a country could be an advantage if it has socialized medicine because like in Cuba health care is available to all- I think that in a capitalistic country it hurts the poor if health care is too expensive for the poor-
Darn it i have to get back to my jokes and leave these kind of discussions for the experts but what i do think is that a communist country guarantees health care and education to all citizens may be better.
I was in Czechoslovakia when it was a communist country and perscriptions for medicine were 50 cents to all citizens- Every one could afford medicine they needed.I don’t see any advantage in U.S. if drug companies can charge through the roof for medicine and people die because they can’t afford it.
