Happy 25th Birthday Super Mario Bros.

Hi Guys

As some of you may already know (especially those real hardcore Nintendo fans, such as myself! :P) yesterday marked the 25th Anniversary of one of (if not… the most greatest) gaming character in the history of gaming itself! I for one grew up with Mario on the PC and N64 platforms and over the years it has become known that Mario himself has influenced many of our contemporary games.

So without further ado I would like to say:

Happy 25th Birthday Super Mario Bros… and may he live on for generations to come!:bowser:

Link:Super Mario Bros. 1985 - 2010

Mario Bros was kinda awful though, to be honest. DK was fun.

I liked Mario Bros. Here’s to 25 more years for the oginal video game hero!:toast:

Mario (and Mega Man) were among the few platformers I played regularly (I prefer RPGs) I’m glad to see he’s lasted so long. Though I wonder what they’ll come up next… he’s already been to Outer Space and inside Bowser’s body!! Maybe they should do a crossover ala Kingdom Hearts.

Btw, if Princess Whatsername can kick ass too (as we have seen in several games) why does she never escape Bowser on her own!? I think she just likes being rescued. Byotch. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the link Helios.

Been there. Done that.

I think that is a rather harsh statement to make since Mario has become loved worldwide by millions from a broad market! I admit Donkey Kong is good (and dates back a few years prior to Mario Bros.) however, it doesn’t make it better… but we all have our opinions.

No problem!

And yeah… I agree, Princess Peach can be pretty deadly… she should be able to own the Bowser!

When I got my Mario Bros/Duck Hunt multicart for NES, somehow I had more fun shootings the ducks than squishing Goombas and Koopas. But that was the last time I played a FPS (some pundits might argue that DH is not a FPS but a Gallery shooter technically, well, I say: to hell with semantics).

HAPPY BD to you commie plumber!

Killmore: I was thinking s true crossover, not an Olympics Simulator. With a story and adapted mechanics. (Super-speed granting Mushrooms? Hmmm…)

Seifer: Communist Mario was the funniest thing I saw all day!! :hahaha;

Yeah. Should’ve gone with this to begin with.

Features Sonic and Solid Snake and a story mode that inserts both (though only the former gets inserted at the last second).

The point is that Mario’s been in crossovers. Just not in a crossover that doesn’t really have anything to do with either series crossing over like any KH game after the first one or one with Disney yet.

Once again, what I’d like to see is a FULL crossover game, something that combines the stories and sensibilities of Mario and one other franchise the way Kingdom Hearts did (though I agree KH went on its own merry way after the first game.) SSBB is fun but it’s a multi-crossover with several characters besides Mario. And the Sonic thing disappointed me because I’m not a sports fan, I wanted to see actual battles between the franchises’ characters. In a way, the first Mario RPG had influences from Final Fantasy, including an optional Boss that would have been perfect for FF (the game even lampshades how things are different from the usual several times!) I want more of that! Chocobo/Yoshi races! Moogles jumping on Goombas! That sort of stuff.

???

I would rather see them try crossing over Mario with MGS for total WTF.

Mario and his trusty mount Metal Gear Rex battle Liquid Ocelot riding around in a flying clown car craft thingy commanding mercenary armies clad in turtle shells and armed with hammers to save Princess Meryl. While Old Snake and Sigh-borg Ninja Raiden run, crawl, and hide in boxes through the war-torn Mushroom kingdom to help Peach and her rebel group in their desperate struggle against Bowser and his Koopa Nano Troopa in an effort to prevent him from using the ultimate weapon “The Flying Airship”. A mobile weapons platform capable of launching Banzai Bills from half way around world 8 and capable of devastating entire stages.

Much more interesting than Mario meets Final Fantasy.

Some random zipperrific teen and friends bop around in mushroom kingdom themed worlds while meeting such celebrities such as Shy-Guys, Goombas, and the occasional Laikuta while battling random entities known as the faceless or starless and a bunch of angsty weirdos and the occasional villain with hair capable of breaking the laws of physics and releasing the N-void. Mario’s too busy to actually show and and you get to summon Toad and Yoshi instead. Bowser’s a tutorial boss fight and Sephiroth will kick your level 99 ass should you make it to the end of the tourney.

But of course this is all redundant anyways since SMRPG:LotSS did this to begin with and at a level today’s Squeenix is incapable of nearing.

The Mario franchise has great games, but the original Mario Bros isn’t one of them. The Super Mario Bros/World games etc. are more like it.

Apropos DK, Super Donkey Kong Country 3 seems to have aged rather well.

edit: Gila, she’s Earthworm Jim’s girlfriend, right?

Killmore: HAH! That’s what I’m taking about! Well done!! (and again, since the franchise is likely to run out of ideas before it runs out of steam, I bet we WILL see a full crossover one of these days.)

You’re the 50 inch biceps guy I hear about? Well, I like yam. I hope you don’t actually have 50 inch biceps, because that would mean to end up calling you Guns instead of me!

Now that’s what I’m talking about… your like the second person to have wished good-old Mario Happy B’day in this whole thread! Congrats to you! :stuck_out_tongue:

If Nintendo doesn’t make the Mario-Wii available in the US I will cry harder than a hooker doing it to buy baby formula.
