Greatest Hits / M Games

I’ve never been carded. Though it happens that the only M games I’ve bought have been the PS2 SMT games. Even asked if I needed to be carded, just because I know some store policies are fucking picky and tell their cashiers that they need to card even 80 year olds or risk being fired. (I know the cheap grocery store I shop at is.)

As for GH, I don’t care in the least. If they’re close in price, I’d rather buy a new GH than used original, because I know it’s free of scratches, etc. Same game, and if anything, most recent (hopefully least buggy) burn?

That’d be wicked awesome. If you could find one, I would pay you handsomely for your trouble! I think Mr. Hamilton would agree with me, if you catch my drift… :kissy:

I think I checked everywhere in town that sells games. The only places that have it in any form are Target and Gamestop, and those are just lame GH copies. =( And we don’t even have a Circuit City in my community… we don’t even have a Best Buy (although they ARE building one as we speak, and it’ll probably be open in a couple months). So I may be sunk…unless you want to swing me a deal… Mr. Hamilton might invite his friend Mr. Lincoln over to play at your house if you could secure me one of those non-GH copies… if you catch my drift… :kissy:

Try eBay? >_>

In the UK the Covers are not that Offencive. The UK FF covers are Just the Logo on the Front.

FF9 Orginal

FF7 Platnium

FFX

FFX Platnitum

I’ve Never been asked for my age execpt for buying a Knife. But then My mates mum was on another Till and knew how old I was.

Yes, Ebay, where the condition of discs is ALWAYS terrible, and people flat-out lie about it!

I’ll probably never buy another used disc game on Ebay as long as I live. =P

Gila-Monster had a good point. How exactly does the way the game packaging looks affect the game itself? I’m pretty sure having a GH version of FFX won’t make the gameplay different. Is this purely because of aesthetics? It seems rather pointless to me if the game is going to inhabit a shelf or a drawer for most of its life. If you were a game collector who wanted a mint original copy of every game of x series I’d understand, but if this is just for casual play I don’t see why I’d deprive myself of a game just because I dislike the art on its case’s front. It’s like people I knew who didn’t buy World of Warcraft when it came out because they wanted the Alliance box cover to go with their Alliance character. Makes no sense.

Because, I spend probably more time ogling my games than I do actually playing them. =P

And the fact that I do care should probably show you that I don’t buy games just for casual playing (I’m always buying games, but I rarely have time to ever play them), but also to collect them. =D Ultimately, though, I’m probably too picky for my own good usually. =P

Ahh, now I see. Just a friendly word, even if you don’t end up buying FFX, at least rent it so you can play through it. It’s a fun game.

Haven’t there been a couple of games where there were slight differences between the first release and the GH release? I can’t remember which ones offhand.

Only one off hand I can think of, and even then my memory is fuzzy; wasnt there a slight graphical error playing the non-GH version of Silent Hill 1 on the PS2? I know this is the case, but I heard offhand that the GH version fixed that. Or were they talking out of their asses?

One I’ve theorized but never proven nor heard about was Xenogears; a LOT of people, and the original reviews complain about random encounters happening in mid-flight. As in, in the middle of a jump. I’ve also noticed in XG discussions that some people didnt have this problem at all. I am in the latter, I had no prob with it. I did noticed a ‘register’ as the music stopped playing that verified I was gonna go into a battle at the end of the jump, but the battles actually waited until I landed to start. Was there a change along the way, any official stories?

Actually, it was Silent Hill 2 on PS2 (Silent Hill 1 was on PS1), and it wasn’t a graphical error; Silent Hill 2 was re-released on Xbox as “Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams.” In Japan, Xbox didn’t sell very quickly, so PS2 players over there were upset by the favoritism, so Konami released “Restless Dreams” on PS2. However, Konami saw no reason to spend the extra money marketing a re-release in the US, as the Xbox sold well over here, and there wasn’t too much demand. However, when they released the GH print of Silent Hill 2, it was the “Restless Dreams” version, which had all of the “Xbox exclusive” bonuses.

Also, certain GH prints of FF7 for PS1 edit out much of the profanity (as was done on the PC version). The ESRB had apparantly changed their rules since the original release of the game, and felt that that language was inappropriate for a “T” rated game, and Square removed some of the “shits” and “asses,” leaving in the “hells” and “damns.” You can tell the difference because none of Barret’s speech on the train was censored in the first print, but is in some of the GH prints.

Obviously, FFAnthology’s GH print didn’t have the soundtrack disc, and the GH print of Sly Cooper had a drastically different cover, as did the PH print of Dead or Alive 3. Recent GH prints of FF8, FF9, FFAnthology, FFChronicles, Xenogears, Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts and Chrono Cross have the Square Enix logo instead of the old Squaresoft logo. I’m sure there are other differences in other games, but I can’t say I recall all of them immediately.

Wow…I had no idea about that censorship. How do you know all that stuff.

I’m quite glad I have the original FF Anthology print then. I had no idea that they cut out the soundtrack. It was a nice addition. It missed out on some soundtracks I would have preferred were on there. I don’t think they had the battle themes even.

I have an original… well, a COPY of the original and yes, it does happen… in a way. It is incredibly rare as the game always had a 3-5 second delay between the moment the game decided to trigger a random encounter (Which you can sense by heraing the PS1 making a “reading” sound) and the moment the battle actually started. During that period, you could still move around but not jump, HOWEVER, if you just walk off a cliff during that period, the battle might start just as you fall.

As a added bit: This triggered just as I was about to reach the top of Babel Tower and since I couldn’t jump, I accidentally fell and had to do the entire thing AGAIN ;_;

Before FFA’s release, Square’s US website held a poll to see what songs people wanted on those soundtracks. In case you’re curious, NOT ONE OF THE SONGS I VOTED FOR MADE THE FINAL SOUNDTRACK. So, you can’t blame me.

Thats a nice story, but I was referring to Silent Hill 1, running it on a PS2, you remember that PS2 runs PS1 games, right? The error I was referring to in the GH version was a backwards compatability error.

I do remember being able to walk around for a short while after a battle triggered, and not being able to jump in this time. However, I did observe that when I did happen to be in mid air, it would ALWAYS wait until I landed before the battle begins, whereas people were complaining about true mid-flight battles. Even if the improved version isnt perfect, my version didnt have it as bad as people make it out to be.

I never had mid-flight battles, but yes, the mid-jump bug bugged the hell out of me. Babel Tower especially. GAK.
I had the non-GH version, btw.

How can I tell which Version I’ve got? Since PEGI (EU’s Version of ESRB) didn’t start until KH came out but before it went Platnim.

The UK-Platnium KH has the OLD Square Logo in the Logo next to Dinsey and S-E down at the Bottom. The Last Batch Of UK FF PSX’s was just before the merge.

I think FFX- Platniutmum doesn’t have the Free DVD with Intervews and KH Previews and The Music Video.

Oh… I can’t speak to that. I never played the GH print of SH1. The non-GH print seems to work fine on my PS2, though. I’ll simply believe you, as that sounds entirely feasible. SE didn’t fix FFV’s PS2 compatibility with the GH print of that, though.

It was a simple graphical error, that happens in one cutscene near the end of the game, and it didnt halt the game at all. I remember renting the non-GH version, seeing this slight anomaly, thinking ‘that didn’t look right… whatever’, and went on. I then heard at a later date it was an anomaly caused by backwards compatability. Thing is, I never played it on a true PS1, and never played a GH version, so I cannot verify, other than that I did see in one cutscene something that didn’t seem right.

I don’t like GH packaging, but, like Sorc said, I don’t hang the shit on my wall, so it’s not a serious problem.

I’ve never been carded for an M game, although I try to get around carding as much as possible, either by not shaving for a while until nobody would believe I’m underage, or such methods. I’ve never tried any of that with games, though, and hope I don’t have to.
