Yep, I’ve been watching it every time it airs on Teletoon. It’s pretty cool. Though they’re trying to fit a 3 book trilogy into a single season of TV. Not easy.

Since people here are hitting more on the fantasy/sci-fi genres, I’ll suggest some general fiction I like.

The Old Man and the Sea - Hemmingway Short, good read. Probably my favorite book. (Possibly read this in conjunction with The Pearl by Steinbeck)

Watership Down - Richard Adams It’s a book about rabbits and has some nice allusions to various government types. I like it alot, and it has a very well done animated movie that was adapted off of its story.

Patriot Games - Tom Clancy It’s Tom Clancy. Bestest Tom Clancy book ever. (😛 to you, SK)

The Grapes of Wrath - Steinbeck It’s nothing but Communist propaganda, but it’s still a very well written, intriguing story. Somewhat on the long side, but I like it.

And now for a fantasy suggestion. The Earthsea Trilogy by Ursula K. LeGuin. It has some nice Daoist principles in it along with a very Jungian backdrop in the first book. Dai could tell you more about the Earthsea books outside of the original trilogy.

You may also want to try reading some short stories. I’ve found Poe to be excellent in this regard (duh), so that could possibly fit in for you liking horror.

As Gilg already said Nightwatch; it severly owns your ass. Others I recommend are Fifth Elephant, Thief Of Time, The Truth, (all discworld) and the truly awesome Romance Of The Three Kingdoms.

I’ve read some of Poe’s work. I’ve read very little though, but my impression is that he’s damn good.

Seph: What’s RotTK about?

i don’t care if it’s been mentioned yet, but Cthulhu is one of the best and creepiest horror books ever.

There are rats in the walls… 0\_o

Also for Sci-Fi, the Larry Nive and Ian M Banks books are top of the pile.

Mario Puzo has written some fantastic Mafioso books. Some of the best are:

-The Sicilian
-The Godfather
-Omerta

If you’re aching for some Fantasy, R.A. Salvatore has written a great deal of books in the Forgotten Realms setting. The “Dark Elf Trilogy” is good, as well as “The Clerical Quintet”. I wouldn’t suggest it unless you’re an Dungeons and Dragons fan though…

Chronicles
Dragons of Autumn Twilight
Dragons of Winter Night
Dragons of Spring Dawning

Legends
Time of the Twins
War of the Twins
Test of the Twins

The Second Generation
Dragons of Summer Flame

War of Souls Trilogy
Dragons of a Fallen Sun
Dragons of a Lost Star
Dragons of a Vanished Moon

I think that’s the main series so far. There are like 150 more, which are, for the most part, novelized Fan Fictions.

The Golden Compass
The Subtle Knife
The Amber Spyglass

Criticism of organized religion (especially Christianity, probably Catholicism even more specifically) disguised as a trilogy of children’s books. I don’t know why I like them.

Also, see my profile, although not quite either of the genres you requested.

I HIGHLY recommend you read the Riftwar and Serpent War Sagas by Raymond E. Feist. They’re the books that brought me into the world of fantasy literature.

I’m not into the mages and magic types of books. I like political novels.

1984-George Orwell
Animal Farm-George Orwell
Darkness at Noon-Arthur Koesteller

And if Soviet fiction isnt your thing, i read this recently for a race project. It’s about a man who was a pimp, he reflects on why he did it, and why he failed at it (feelings), and why hes one of the few who survived the life. Not my usual type of book, but a interesting read nonetheless…

PIMP, the story of my life-Iceberg Slim/Robert Beck

The riftwar saga and Faerie tale by Raymond E. Feist
The Chronicles of amber and Madwand by Roger Zelazny
Xanth novels by Piers Anthony
Eyes of the dragon by Stephen King
(good fantasies)
and maybe try some Roald Dahl books…
