GI Joe

So, anyone see it yet? I saw it yesterday and I have to say…“meh.” It isn’t a horrible train wreck (such as Terminator), but so much missed potential. The action was really cool and it even had some nice twists and developments such as Cobra Commander’s origins and ties with Duke. Sadly I think that the 80’s cartoon movie was better. The Baroness started off pretty cool, but then they throw the whole Hollywood love story in with Duke. Marlon Wayans wasn’t that bad and was actually sort of likable as Ripcord. Anyway, overall it is an entertaining movie, but nothing really special. Definitely a let down though.

Well yeah there was some problems… Mainly the CGI was kinda clunky but I felt they stayed rather true to the story line (other than the Baroness). Then ofcourse the guy they had for duke sucked…and Dennis Quaid was extremly corny.

But those were very minor problems for me cause the action was great , Snake eyes was kick ass(as was storm shadow) , infact every other character was done perfectly and all of it was done without trying to explain every single detail like all the directors love to do with movies now…

As for the story it was really good infact I felt like I was watching a two hour version of the orignal series with increased violence(so it didn’t feel weird).

That being said there is plenty of room for the sequel to be even better…could be worse… Michael Bay could’ve directed.:mwahaha:

Just saw it the other day. Did they ever explain why Ripcord had to take the nanites up to the upper atmosphere?

SINKING ICE HURTS MY BRAIN! Otherwise it was fun but yeah basically in agreement with everyone else.

You WOULD make this thread

Hah yeah… they didn’t really say but I assumed there was a base within the ice so it weighed it down… They did say “There is some ice and metal headed your way”

Still I liked how he was willing to kill his own men to “Kill all the Joes!”

G.I. Joe: The Movie (1987) was more realistic than this hollywood excrement. But explosions and little plot entertain people theses days.

Plot was a bit messy even though it had some nice twists, acting could be a lot better, special effects was really nicely done IMO but overall it’s nothing more than popcorn entertainment.

Bonus points for working “Knowing is half the battle” in without screwing it up though.

Awful movie; it was overly americancentric, sexists and reinforcing of masculine stereotypes. The costumes were terribad, they looked like cheap plastic and even the CG couldn’t save them.

Save your money; do coke. The explosions will be better too.

:kissy:

So in otherwords, they nailed the source material perfectly?

Exactly! :3

:kissy:

Best advice in this thread so far.

When we watch this movie thought its another ok movie but it turn out nice and my niece loves it especially the special effects

Stoooooooooooooooooooooorm SHAAAAADOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

Also, GI Joe: Resolute was way better too.

For me the animated sunbow series and subsequent movie (even with Cobra-La) was the end all pinnacle of GI Joe, everything else will always be subpar or not as good.

I have to disagree with this completely.
The CGI was one of the things I didn’t like , it looked pretty bad at some points… As for “overly americancentric” what movie did you watch? Did they even say America in the whole movie? I think they even said GI Joe was like a nato force or something…“Sexist”??? Fuck me! I have no clue wtf you’re talking about!Scarlet was a major prat of GI Joe and this movie! “reinforcing of masculine stereotypes” Must be talking about everyone but Duke! (Snake Eyes rocked my socks off…heh)

Look this movie had some flaws (Mainly poor acting! I’m talking to you Dennis.)
but overall it was better than most adaptations. Such as Spiderman 3(I hate you Topher Grace!) and Transformers.(Well at least the first one… the second one was pretty good too.)

I think they even said GI Joe was like a nato force or something…
