I just got done watching it and I am in awe at the pure beauty of it. Never have I seen such a pure blending of computer animation with regular animation. I’ll admit the plot was a tad shabby, but no worse than the first GitS plot. You must see it.

it can easily be obtained via bit torrent. The version I downloaded (xvid encoded in mkv format japanese with english subs) was only 1300 megs
I saw both the Hawks DVD rip version and the actual theatrical version and I must say there are numerous translation errors in the Hawks version. Some segments of subtitles are missing entirely or incorrectly translated.
If you can find a theatre that plays it near where you live then I suggest you go see it there, if not then go ahead and download it, but as far as translations go, the Hawks versions isn’t that good.

I saw it GitS2 in theater recently, and the animation was breathtaking. The plot was a little more than I could take in on one go, but nicely done, I think.
Kiro, just so you know, in addition to complex philosophical issues, the first Ghost in the Shell movie contains more nudity and violence/gore than most parents would like their eleven-year old child seeing. (And also, the English dub is one of the most horrificly bad in existence; stick with subtitles).

It does? I got away with watching Ranma 1/2 without my parents finding out for two years…then I got so guilty that I couldn’t sleep, and had to go down, and tell them. But, they didn’t get mad and I’m still aloud to watch it if I don’t watch it for the nudity. -_-
If it has a lot of that I’ll just watch the 2nd one, and see the 1st when I’m older. If I don’t see the first will the second get confusing? Oh, and by the way…I don’t mind philosiphy. A few of my favorites are full of them. For example Kino’s Journey, and Evangelion. Part of the reason I like those is BECAUSE of the philosiphy. I understand most of it too…
for me the nudity in the first one was like its a cyborg wtf do i care.and its not like they did it for the erotic side of it it was more for scientific acuity as to allow her to be invisible, like the invisible man taking of his clothes then getting cured and being naked
