Tell me when Conan O’Brien dies. Then I’ll be sad.
You’ve most likely heard of Star Trek (namely Wrath of Khan), Fantasy Island (dee plane, boss, dee plane), and Freakazoid. He was in all of those.
Not a great, no. His most critically acclaimed role is probably Wrath of Khan, which says something about the quality of his roles and acting, I guess. He still had a very distinctive talking style.
I only ever saw him in Wrath of Khan. His performance there was superb, though. Most of the good parts of Star Trek are due to performances like this, which evoked a more old-fashioned style of acting – a style where you knew you were watching a stylized and exaggerated performance, but the performance was so good that you didn’t care. William Shatner was much the same – he cannot act at all in “modern” roles, but for an obviously stylized “epic” character, he was perfect. You can’t have Marlon Brando play Odysseus, after all.
Well, I knew him (mostly from Fantasy Island) and he was one of my favorite actors ever, a gentleman on and off the screen. His death isn’t much of a surprise given his age, but still, it’s a loss for the acting community. And his fans.
Rest In Peace, Ricardo.
Another one bites the dust…it’s sad. Though I recognized him from Fantasy Island. Didn’t know he was Khan, but always good to know. He had one of those great accents. Still sucks much for everyone else losing him.
