Food of the Day!

Is evil. EVIL.

man, <strike>stuffing</strike> licorice is fucking awesome. I’d marry it if I wasn’t going to eat it. I really enjoy black licorice, and I dont understand how anyone couldn’t.

I like red licorice, but don’t like black. My dad likes both, so I bought him a pack of black once for Easter (he doesn’t like chocolate) specifically so I wouldn’t eat it on him… XD

the twizzlers ones are good, but I don’t really like liquorice

Red “licorice” isn’t licorice. Licorice is made from the licorice plant.

Sorry, I’ve always grown up calling the “Twizzlers”-type candies licorice, and while I knew that the black was the original, I didn’t think the red wasn’t considered “licorice”. I decided to do a bit of research since I obviously was taking for granted what it meant.

The Magic of Licorice (Liquorice) & Licorice Finder

The main page talks about the plant, and that does seem to be the overwhelming use for the term, but through a convoluted series of links:

Food --> Confection --> 3. Nibs, Goodies and Twizzlers

I eventually came across a picture of Licorice “Twizzlers” which shows both red and black.

Also in 6. Ropes & Wheels, it shows Licorice Wheels Available in Red and Black

On the other hand, the Health/History --> History page does say that the “extract of licorice is black colour, is somewhat glossy and has a sharp and shining fracture.”

On more support for the “black” side, I looked in the Food --> Recipes --> Red “Licorice” (note quotation marks!).

The recipe does not include licorice extract. It substitutes “anise” extract. This was mentioned elsewhere on the site, but I wasn’t sure if licorice was excluded from the recipe altogether. It now appears that it is.

In summary: You were right, I was wrong, this is the you told me so song? :hahaha;

So todays food only includes licorice that actually has some licorice in it right? In that case, I modify my post to say: My dad likes licorice, but I don’t, so I bought him a pack once for Easter (he doesn’t like chocolate) specifically so I wouldn’t eat any of it on him… XD

wow, you just pwned yourself. never seen that before

  1. Enchilada

Never had them.

Well, I hope it at least had some level of amusement value in it. I had fun.

enchiladas are goooooood eatins.

Whoah. What are Enchiladas?

Anyways, this topic has gone pretty well, congratulations.

  1. Mayonnaise :frowning:

I shall answer your question AFTER class- I must go… posthaste!

Mayo sucks ass.

Not as much as Miracle Whip, but aye, 984. Aye!

mayo is good on sandwiches. and in big concentrated frozen blocks of it, you know like when you want to make a deal and you’re like shit what do i sign this with and you pull out the mayo block. oh ya smooth times after that.

mayo…I hate it and it sucks, and it sucks ass, and it also sucks youir mom’s ass.JK

enchiladas: tortillas, meat, cheese and vegetables…I mean chile.

Mayo is only good on sandwiches.

Mayo causes the deaths of innocent sandwhiches. :frowning:

Mayonnaise is gross. The whole thought of it is gross. But I love it. At least on sandwiches and boiled eggs.

It’s also a good song by the Smashing Pumpkins.
