FMA: Brotherhood

I hope if they make another side episode (Blind Alchemist, Winry’s Earings, Teenage Izumi) they make an episode of people plotting to counter-act the promised day.

Or “A Day In The Life Of The Furher.” Or just … something… I’m aching for more. frothes at the mouth

Ep. 62!

Final Boss Battle Pt.1! (It is isn’t it?)

So yeah, pretty much everyone tries to kill Father, but the smug bastard just won’t die, much less get hurt, until shit happens and he starts spazzing out. Then Ed pretty much prepares to own his monkey ass. Very awesome episode.

Kinda sad to see Al sacrifice himself, but hey, it got Ed his arm back so he can fuck up Father once and for all. Hopefully, Ed’ll make it through the Gate and give Truth a little what for.
BOOM HEADSHOT!!!

Glad to see that ground-attack the Elrics are so fond of fucked up someone real nice for a change.
What a fucking amazing glorious last fight!!

That was a long time ago when
Mustang was dragged through the gate. Now they’re at the final boss fight’s final form.

That said, it’ll be interesting to see how much they reinterpreted from the storyboard for this episode and beyond.
If Al’s body behind the Gate is weak and malnourished shouldn’t Ed’s arm and leg be the same? I think Truth has been gobbling burgers all the while.

Edward’s arm is just as atrophied as Al’s body is and Ed just needs enough arms for alchemical reasons. Plus at this point Father is basically on his last legs and he’s desperate for some additional power to keep the power absorbed from the heavenly gate in check.

Double Postin’ for Episode 62: All we’re missing is Father sporting an angel wing or two and Latin chanting or Dancing Mad in the background. :mwahaha:

That said, this episode was fucking glorious.

And they even improved the battle over the manga version by letting every major character still standing take a shot at Father while he was trying to absorb Greedling versus just Edward and his one-two automail combo. However, the crack in Alphonse’s armor was too far away in this version. It looked more like he was simply out of the fight at that point rather than showing that he really was at the end of his rope. The other thing that was better shown in the manga was Greedling and General Armstrong butting heads over her participation in the final battle as they were quite literally butting heads over the issue.

That said, this episode was FUCKING GLORIOUS!

Next Episode: The conclusion.

Also not seen, Scar collapsing due to his wounds and exhaustion.

Episode 63, and we hit a climax!

FUCKING EPIC!!!

Yeah, the whole episode was pretty awesome with the defeat of Father, and Ed overcoming Truth to get Al back. Poor Greed got killed, and Hohenheim eventually bites the dust.

So yeah, really awesome episode.

Final Episode: An epilogue I suppose.

Hell yeah an epilogue! I couldn’t stand it if they ended it like that. Wonder if Al will be a State Alchemist after this? Will Ed train under Winry to become an automail engineer?

I didn’t notice when Ed was bargaining with Truth, but did Truth still have his leg? Or did he give it back along with Al?

Manga Spoilers: Due to Edward having learned to not to reach for so much and for wanting something to remind him of his idiocy and the price he paid for attempting Human Transmutation (beyond his huge disfiguring scar on his shoulder) Truth still has his leg and Ed won’t be getting it back.

I do find it odd they didn’t do a silent screen capture for Greed before the commercials. Seeing him turn Father’s body into fucking charcoal was a lot more well done in the episode over the manga.
I am glad for the little bit of dialogue between Alex Armstrong and Hoenheim, helped set the mood other than, kthnx gonna go die naow.

Truth is still an asshole.
63 was rather underwhelming. I hope the denouement is better.

The anime is over too. Incidentally, I watched the last couple of episodes of the original FMA again and it’s hard not to notice the difference in the quality of the drawing. Also, FMA:B seemed to make more sense than the first one after all.

Episode 64:

Why is Selim alive? Only two years have passed and he was an undeveloped embryo about the size of a grape in episode 63.

I’m… not really happy with all the changes they did in the last chapter. The way they flipped the order of events with Mustang and Marcoh just to make Mustang seem more noble and unrealistically possitive seemed silly, the removal of the whole “sometimes it’s okay to take things slowly” line seemed really pointless, especially since it was a pretty important line regarding Ed accepting his lack of powers, then pretty much reversing all of Grumman’s dialogue for… no real purpose except making him sound less smooth, skipping Jerso and Zanpano becoming amateur alchemists under Al… it just seems like a bunch of completely pointless changes. It was not a time matter, the scenes were replaced instead of cut, so I’m wondering what the fuck was the purpose.

They also gave Mustang a 'stache… were they just fucking around to see how many silly pointless changes they could do or what?

It was worth so much time in the making, ever since the first Full Metal animation debuted on Adult Swim, to finally see Ed and Al come back to Resembool together finally restored.

Considering that they only had the storyboard for the final chapter to work with its amazing how close they did get it. I can imagine that even the author herself didn’t have the details for the epilogue down completely back when she shared the storyboard back in May. I mean it only came out in print about a month ago. Not a hell of a lot of room for the details there.

I thought it ended rather well, though now I’m tempted to go and view the last volume of the manga just to see the differences between things.

You could do that, or you can go back to the beginning and see if you can spot the differences of what went down versus what was really going down now that you know the overall outcome.

Or better yet, do both.

Mostly everytime I go on a Full Metal rant about Brotherhood, people ask “But what about Dante? And the alternate dimensions? How are they going to explain that? (in lieu of the first OVA)”

And I’m like

“Dude… Imagine Harry Potter… but at book five they stopped going to school and started kicking ass all over Europe. With Nazi’s. There. Dante and the alternate dimension shit suddenly doesn’t sound quite as awesome anymore, does it?”
